Armor All took off paint!

So I am just now getting around to posting this, but here we go. A few months ago I thought it would be great to make my mud flaps look nice and shiny. Being the genius I am, I grabbed some Armor All wipes and wiped away. Took the white lettering right off of my passenger side rear flap and smeared it everywhere!

Has anyone heard of this before? And what is the best way to make the 4WD letters white again?

I will take a picture of it tomorrow and post it on here.

 

Wow thats crazy, I clean mine with Purple Power and it doesn't even do that!
And idk how you would re paint them, but I'm sure someone will know

 

Maybe it has something to do with the fact my truck is 16 years older than yours. Purple Power Cleaner is some strong stuff. Last year I walked by someone spraying that stuff, and one tiny mist droplet hit my eye. WOW did that sting!

 

I had this happen to my 07, but just slightly smeared it and not sure I was using AA.

 

Ideas on getting my letters fully white again?

 

Fully clean and degrease them. Lacquer thinner is good.
Krylon Fusion would be my first go-to... gonna take some masking.

 

Masking is gonna be harder trying to get inside all those tight areas, but I'll manage it. I will pick some of that stuff up somewhere in one of the big box stores. Flat white right?
Any other suggestions?

 

i took off some of my white off with Meguiar's Ultimate Protectant.the 4x4 was stained from the exhaust so i was being pretty rough with it. when i noticed just a little white came off i stopped.

 

I don't have any idea where to get them but they make paint markers in many different colors.

 

Just wipe the rest of the white off and be done with it???

 

Why not have a sign shop make you a mask with the good one and use a paint made for plastic on it to respray them? You could scan it and make one yourself out of some vinyl.

Iphone doesn't take the best pictures. It looks a little more noticeable in person, the black shows through the letters more.

 

So how are you supposed to get the mud flaps clean and shiny?

 

Same thing happened to me last weekend. Same intention as you....wanted to shine-up the flaps on my '08, & the white 4x4 lettering was smeared. Pissed me off!!

 

You can mask over the letters with tape and then cut out with an xacto knife or use grease on the areas you don't want painted and then after the paint is dry wipe off the grease.

 

Get a pic head on for me and let me see what I can do. I'll also need it closer. Fill up the whole frame with the 4WD. I may be able to make something for you with the software I have and cut it out. I'll also need you to give me the measurements both ways of the letters (H and W).

Thanks but I think I'll be able to work something with tape and scissors. Its not really important enough to make templates for lol.

 

Ok, was just offering. Your best bet would probably be the thin 1/4" 3m tape that body shops use. It will bend to form the curve around the D.
