CO2 Sensor???

Looking at a 2005 Tacoma Prerunner V6 4.0L, 177000 miles on it. Seller says engine code error shows CO2 sensor problem. First Question is is there a CO2 sensor ? or does he mean O2 Sensor? Any case any idea cost to fix? Would it be sensor or could it be wiring? Anyone know of class problems with this vehicle?

 

No I don't know what the code is specifically He just said CO2 sensor error.
Any guess as to what would or how much I would be likely looking at?

 

That would be an O2 sensor, It should be under $100. If you plan on doing it yourself, you can get any autoparts store to check the code and give it to you. Buy the sensor online if you can, otherwise you will end up paying more than you need to. If the sensor screws in like a spark plug, apply some anti-seize compound or whatever the call it to the threads. Just don't get that stuff on the sensor itself.

 

How do you know if the sensor has gone bad???? I have a code for MAF sensor high volume. I have changed the sensor 3 times now with no luck. I have also been told that my CAT might be bad. i hopeing for just the o2 sensor. I had not had a code for eather one of these problems though......

Sometimes a sensor code means that the sensor has gone bad.
Sometimes the sensor code means that the sensor is working exactly as it should but something in the system is causing it to be out of spec.

This may or may not happen in conjunction with other codes.
That's why California now prohibits Autozone sales drones from reading codes and selling parts based on their interpretation of codes.

Check your state laws... in California, the seller is responsible for making sure that the vehicle passes smog and has no CEL.
Personally, I would not buy it as it sits. If it were something simple, it would already be fixed and he would not be selling.

I've bought a number of used vehicles from private parties, and every time the seller says "It's only...." he really means "It's only the beginning of your problems"
Bought a Suburban that "only" had a problem with an ABS speed sensor....

...and a bad radiator, and wheel bearing, and cracked brake lines, and the TBI took a shit 6 months later, etc.... Bought it for $2200, put $3000 into it over the next 12 months. Sold it to a guy at work for $1000 and bought the Taco.

 

Thanks for the info on the sensor. I guess the only true way to find out for sure is to send my truck to Toyota???....
