That's marketing , they predominantly sell DCLB up here cause obviously that's what they believe is in demand , and DCSB down there for the same reason

You can thank union labor, per usual:

    http://www.thetruthaboutcars.com/2012/06/gms-akerson-asks-caw-to-cut-hourly-wage-costs/

I work in a field that requires a 4 year BS, 3 year doctorate, and state licensure. I'm salaried, but if you break my compensation down to a 40 hour work week, I don't even get $32/hour. That is absolutely ludicrous pay for unskilled manufacturing work.

Because Global Car Company is going to price their wares to the market. GM vehicles (for example) made in Canada are going to sell on American lots next to GM vehicles made in the US or Mexico. They're all going to have the same sticker price, and Americans are not ABOOT to start paying Canadians prices for this Impala because it cost more to make.

You canucks, on the other hand, are used to higher prices. And they're gonna stay up to recoup those manufacturing costs as long as people put up with it.

The *real* long term effect you have to be worried about is vehicle manufacture leaving Canada entirely...most of the time it's least expensive to build 'em where you sell 'em, but in the case of NAFTA countries, the math can often work out such that it's least expensive to build 'em right over the border from where you sell 'em...

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Oz-T ,

"That has nothing to do with the link in the OP "

I beg to differ the "price gouging" on durable goods and soft goods is relational in part due to the taxes companies have to pay to the government for programs and infrastructure, services being passed on to the consumer. Yes the article addresses cars specifically however, does not mention the associated costs of building them they only wanted to portray the car manufacturers as the bad guy. .. Which I do think they are but there is more to this story then just greedy manufacturers.

Intetesting you think that as Canada has a fairly low corporate tax rate

Federal taxes and luxury taxes are added at the end , the difference is pre tax

I never said you had a low tax rate the state and province taxes appear high to me but I am not an accountant nor an economist. I was merely pointing out the price of the vehicles is set by many things not just the GREED of the manufacturers of products and they are greedy. I would love to see an in depth study of all costs included in making a vehicle both in canada and the US I am sure the canadian costs are higher however , I did find this http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/03/30/us-corporate-tax-rate_n_1392310.html so I am not sure. Anyway nice debate have a good one.

I said we have a low corporate tax rate

And I don't think you are getting the point

The vehicle is built in Canada , so tack on whatever underlying costs associated with that you think there are , then this vehicle is sold in the US at a price that is less than it is sold in Canada

The cost to make the vehicle didn't change because they sold it in the US

    Hey,

Miss read the corporate tax rate statement not having a comma had me reading it a different way. Sorry for that. I got the point you feel the vehicle made in canada should be sold for the same amount as it is sold for in the US. I don't agree and it's not that I don't think they can their own greed would not let them do so. However, the costs associated with building the vehicle there and selling it there vs building it here and selling it here or importing one built there to here and selling it for less then they do there is a function of many things costs, taxes, exchange rates etc etc etc and I will leave it at that. If you still think I missed your point then we will have to agree to disagree. Have a good one.

    They build them here

    Here only

Then sell them here for one price , and there for cheaper

You saying it's less expensive to build vehicles in the US vs Canada has no relevance on it

Plus the exchange rate is moot , the dollars are at par

    I'm done
