Yes they do make diesels look bad to the uninformed but that picture is not at all indicative of modern clean diesels, and those types of trucks are in the minority. That ones even at a drag strip. I'm sure I could find some gas engine belching smoke to support my argument but I'm not that fucking stupid.

 

You have now classified over 50% of the country, most american's are too incoherent to separate that from this

I'm not arguing that diesel burns cleaner than gas. I haven't done enough research to know if modern diesels are cleaner than modern gas engines. I suspect they're both approaching similar levels though. I don't have the facts so I won't argue either way. I do know one thing though, modern diesels are quite clean, similar to the TDI you posted.

In the end, I don't really care that much anyway, we're unlikely to see a diesel Tacoma anytime soon. My next truck is going to be a 6.7 CTD 2500 and I can tow the taco or whatever off road toy I have. A diesel Tacoma would be cool but ultimately I'll want a full size anyway.

 

I live in the grain belt, diesels are a way of life around here, I personally think they are badass. I use that picture because the newb was claiming diesels burn cleaner than gas engines, as a generality, and that is just plain not true. If all diesels used the same technology as VW/Audi, then I would agree completely, but Duramax, Cummins, and Powerstrokes are far from a "clean diesel"

here is an idea... lets have a darton sleeves and forged rods and piston gb, get a huge precision turbo and make 400 horseys and pull 500lbs of torque =) whos with me lol... lets just face it we will never see the D4D and all its awesome potential as a 4 cyclinder eco friendly 36 city mpg, 200 hp, 400 trq, and diesel retardedness... it would cost people like exxon profits so itll never happen

People see the black soot that comes out of a diesels tailpipe and think that it is the worst pollutant in the world. The soot falls back down to earth , doesn't float around in the air very long. But people who put the chips and mods in their trucks so they look like a choo-choo train going down the highway make everyone hate diesel and have false beliefs about it.

I believe that it is a cleaner burning fuel in the fact it doesn't pollute the atmosphere like gas. And I am all for the torque and mileage you get with diesel. Not to mention the fact the diesel engines a built with tougher materials, and can take much much much more abuse.--Don't believe me? Look up Killing a Toyota by Top Gear on youtube. They torture a HiLux diesel and destroy the truck, but it still runs.

The VW golf TDI has a 2.0L that gets an estimated 42 mpg highway and 140HP.

I have no proof. I should have said that is what I want to believe. I hear people say that every where though.

*heavier duty materials. Diesels have bigger internals. Do I have to proof read everything?

There have been rumors that Ford is bringing back the F-100 midsize with diesel as an option, and Dodge is going to produce a diesel midsize truck of design similar to the Dakota, both rumored to hit the market next year. If this is true, Toyota would pretty much have to find a way to get diesel trucks to the US market to remain competitive.

 

I've tried to fill my F350 TD with Shell V-Power gasoline... Twice. Old gas habits die hard, and diesels don't run on gas . Lol

 

If you cant back up what you say with at least some sort of factual data, then it's best not to say anything at all, you end up looking like an idiot, like you did a couple posts up.
