Toyota's responses seem to be directly correlated to media coverage of recalls. If media is not on top of some sensationalist car related event(ie acceleration thing) then car manufacturers become complacent. I just cant figure out why both recall and refunds have to be done at the same time. Just give me my money back first... And repair the car when you have parts. Grrr

    Not true.

Recalls are driven by and monitored by the Fed.

TSBs are issued by the manufacturers, and while it is often the case that a TSB becomes a recall, it is also the case that a TSB will prevent a recall by heading off a problem early on.

The problem is that TSBs are not "free"... they are covered under warranty, but the TSB is effectively a memo to the service writers that says "If the customer complains about this, this is likely how to fix it"
If it's under warranty, it's free. If it's out of warranty, customer pays.

Recalls are mandated by the Fed when accidents or injuries are reported and the manufacturer is able to determine the cause.
A manufacturer MAY self-issue a recall, but the minute they refer to it as a "recall", the Fed takes control of the situation.

All I want is $505.00 deposited back into my account. Is that too much to ask of a company that makes bazillions of dollars?

They make about $200 per vehicle.
The dealership makes more on each sale than Toyota Corporate.

But I agree... If there is a recall that covers an item previously repaired out of warranty, the customer is due a refund.

Fog Lamps, Tail gate secured, bed lights, inverter, hitch. Repairs include fan, airbag cable, bypass pipe, valve cover gasket, water pump.
Checked with my dealer in Stockton, California today- no news, they expect something in 30 days. Good thing airbags are mere convenience devices, huh?

55k miles on my 07 trd, made 01/01/07

    SRS light came on

autozone can't scan srs codes, and my schools snap on solus is locked up for the summer

made an appt with toyota, went it and told them I didn't want my gas pedal cut but to go ahead and figure out the srs issue

spiral cable as hoped, so free. They also had me sign a waiver about the pedal, easy. And they washed my truck.

first guy I talked to said toyota is only allotting 3 assemblies per week per dealer

took about a week to get my parts in but they said I would be "priority" since it was already failed

Took a few hours this morning, washed the truck again too.

Only the third trip to the dealer ever!

Can anyone tell me how they replace the spiral cable? I feel like the service guy gave me a bs explanation just because I'm young. All I'd like to know is if they take the steering wheel off to replace the cable or not?

I have searched it and all I get is news about the recall but no details as in the procedure. The reason why is because I brought it in and got it back, noticed my steering wheel was crooked which it wasn't before I brought it in so I brought it back again and they blamed it on my suspention, so they "adjusted" my suspention which fixed the steering wheel according to them. I just want to know if it's all bs he was saying because before bringing it in for recall my truck ran just as good as the day I got it.

Give the guy a break man.
I wouldn't know to search on ncttora, and we all know how bad the VBBS search function is.
