Engine Reving no power

In the early morning when I'm on my way to work. When I get on the gas the car would stay in neutral "reving" and no power are delivered to the wheels. It feels like the tranny is slipping. After a block or 2 the problem goes away.

Has it happen to anyone here or is it a known problem. In the mornings is usually 30degrees around here so far and I typically only warm up the car for 5-10 seconds.

 

Letting the car warm up is a good place to start...Trans fluid is subject to viscosity issues the same way oil is and can cause slipping/sticking if the trans isn't properly lubed/pressured.

Give it a shot tmrw- warm up the truck 5-10 mins before you leave and see if it's the same way.

 

5-10 minutes isn't that a little excessive?

I was told awhile back it only take 30seconds to a minute for the car to get up and going.

 

Yeah only when the ambient temp is around 50 and above...30* is freezing point! Furthermore, your tranny will not warm up as fast as the motor. Just do the warmup-it can be a 4-5 minute one-it makes it easier for your truck.

 

It takes me about two minutes of driving to get to standard temperature on the gauge in 50-60 degree weather. That's adding gas, loading the engine- If it's sitting idling in your driver way it will take longer.

Start on the low end and see if the problem goes away....or start with 2 mins and see if the problem goes away...and work from there...It's a troubleshooting technique as much as a fix.

 

Did you do what SJ did? haha but chris is right, check the fluid levels!

 

What year is your vehicle?

If you have an 05-09 truck....you can't check the fluid levels as easily as the 95-04 trucks. But there is information to show you how (I don't have time to search for it)

If you're still under warrantee...I'd call the dealer and make them check the tranny fluid and diagnose your problem. You'll have to leave it there overnight because the only way they can check the fluid, is if its completely cold.

The tranny should never be slipping and you should always have power regardless of how cold it is.
