Where Are US Tacos Made?

I bought my 2012 Taco in Oklahoma. Is there any way to determine where it was manufactured? I suspect it was in the USA. I want to have an answer for my redneck neighbors that think I am a traitor for not tolerating the poor quality they experience with their Ford, Chevy and Dodge trucks.

 

Look at the sticker insde the driver side door jam. I believe the vin might also be able to tell you.

 

Most 2011 & all 2012 were made in texas Texas

Tundras are made in San Antonio, TX, didn't know that they were making Tacomas now. My 2012 Tacoma was made across the border from San Diego in Mexico.

FWIW, the Tundra has the most American-made content of any full-size truck, and the Camry takes that award for passenger cars. Kind of ironic.

 

My 2012 was made in Baja California (says on the door jamb and the VIN confirmed it as well).

 

If you go on youtube and ask a Toyota hater, he will say Japan because it's designed there, made there and shipped here by the Japanese only to hit US soil and be sold by them so the profits go straight back to Japan so the U.S doesn't get any of the profits. According to Toyota haters on youtube.

The NUMMI California production moved there when the plant closed in 2010

They are making some Tacomas at the Toyota plant in San Antonio now. But I don;t think they are from the ground-up... I think they are just doing some pre-delivery detail stuff.

Screw Toyota haters. I'd rather own an Asian or European vehicle than any made by a US manufacturer these days--they all suck. I frankly can't think of a single US vehicle I would buy except an F350 Power Stroke King Ranch edition (I'd already own it if my wife would let me)

All US Tundra and Tacoma manufacturing is done at the San Antonio facility now since the closing of the NUMMI California plant.

Not sure about the numbers of US built vs. Mexican built Tacomas sold in US


Side note: Toyota's US plants employee 1000's of Americans -- hard-working Americans who I'm sure appreciate the jobs they have. I'm also pretty sure most ignorant haters who claim you should only "buy American" are primarily concerned with the well being of "average working Joe", and not that of corporate CEO fat-cat types...so as far as I'm concerned, I *am* buying American.

That's why I said "US" manufacturing. I realize that a % of Tacomas sold in the US (and Canada for that matter) were built in Mexico.

I wonder if there is any difference in build quality between Taco's built in Mexico vs. San Antonio?

Mine was assembled in San Antonio, the engine and tranny built in Japan according to the window sticker. 30% Japan parts, 70% US/Canada.

People are more ignorant than that. Foreign companies are not allowed to just set up shop and ship money back. Yes they have a parent company Toyota Japan, But Toyota NA, is a US company. I went to school for this ( International Business). People who claim to "Buy American" are not actually looking into what goes into what they want to claim. Most Global companies for instance US Car companies outsource to other countries. It's just fact, they wouldn't be able to stay afloat if they didn't. With labor wages, benifits, they just can't pay the salaries needed to charge for something that is 100
% American. It also factors into a product being competitive.
Toyota works with us companies/wholesalers/manufacturers to make their product. Lets say they are like the walmart of car companies but with better benifits and employee management. They work with there US suppliers, by improving there manufacturing to cut down excess cost/waste, while also improving on quality of manufactured parts. Nummi was a joint venture with GM to teach them quality control, and toyota's Kaizen model. Even if your vehical is made in mexico it shouldn't matter that much because toyota has a high regard for quality control, more so than other US manufacturers, and made in mexico really doesn't apply to everything that goes into a car. It's more likely assembled in mexico with parts sourced from around the world and for the US, it would be a high % like 70% which was mentioned before. With the implementation of NAFTA (no or limited tariffs between mexico and canada) parts are trucked/shipped across the boarder where they are used to assemble a final product. I can go on and on, and even throw in the prison system, but i doubt people want o hear me rant about business/politics/economy it's a touchy subject people don't like to talk about, even though it's quite important.
