5100s installed but....

ok i got to billys put on today....i set them a 2.5. I knew that the rear would sag a bit bit i didnt know that it would sag this much. i likeD the look of the rear sitting lower than the front but not quite this much. Im thinking about doing the AAL. is it an easy install? and a buddy told me about a 1inch shackle?? he drives a jeep so he dosnt know much about tacos but he did help me today. can yall tell me a little about the shackles? Heres a pic of the truck now....and tires to come. looks goofy now

Personally, the cost of lift shackles versus the cost of an AAL are probably similar. I'd go with the AAL.

Why not re-adjust the 5100's to be a bit lower - and you won't have to spend any more money?

hey cole, i will be adding a leaf this weekend on my first gen. I saw a pretty good right up on it somewhere on here but it was for the 2nd gen but how much different can it be. as for the front, my 881 coils will be coming in tomorrow so im going to leave the 5100's at stock in the front. i can do a write up on the aal if you want.

 

I had the same "cali rake" when I first did my 2006 Taco, if you put an AAL or body lift, you can level it out pretty easily.

 

yea man if you could do a write up that would be awesome....i looked at the shakles and they look super easy to do...its like 4 bolts?? i think, but i would much rather go with the AAL because its alot more reputable. i just dont even know how to go about instaling the AAL

 

If you put a body lift it it its not going to level it out.. your lifting the whole body front and back equally.. If your on a budget get a add-a-leaf. Shackles can cause more axle wrap. Dont get a block *Period* if you have the money get an after market leaf pack. If you wheel get deaver or similar of you haul OME has some packs.

Just FWI your front will sag in a few months to about 1 to 1 1/2 inches over stock. Wait to see how far it settles before getting a rear lift or you might even be sitting ass high.. Just from my experience.

 

gotcha i plan on ordering the toytec AAL, i dont do any wheeling, as you can see the rig for wheeling is in the background.....but i just want it to look good. i used to do ALOT of towing but i hardly ever do now because of my new job. Thanks for the help! btw...what is axle wrap??

 

Axle wrap is the twisting motion incurred by leafs as a result of torque being applied to them.

Kinda like your leaves make a S shape rotated 90 deg. You want a U shape. Also dont want a "N" shape (more like lower case n) thats bad also. Just go for the add-a-leaf and you'll be happy since you dont off-road or haul.

I ran daystar super shackles on couple of my 1st gen tacos... like it better than aal cause it doesnt mess with the spring rate so it rides like a factory truck in rear not stiff like a 3/4 ton

 

I got my rear AAls when I bought my lift kit from ToyTech a long time ago. It came with Pro-Comp AALs then (not sure about now) and I think I paid around $250 for front coil spacers, diff drop kit, and AALs. They are real easy to install if you have any sort of mechanical knowledge. If you installed your 5100s on the front, you'll easily be able to put the AALs in. Just remove the 4 spring perch bolts on each side and the alignment bolt in the spring pack and jack up the truck from the rear bumper to get the springs off the axle. Slip in the AAL and install the new spring alignment bolt and you're pretty much done. Bolt everything back down and torque to spec. Note: My kit came with a bracket to raise the brake line that mounts to the rear axle. I don't know how neccessary it is, but you should ask about it when ordering your AALs.
As for the ride quality, I noticed a little stiffer ride, but nothing too bad. You could do the shackle lift and retain your "stock" spring rate, but with the AALs you are able to haul more stuff in your bed w/o squatting down the rear of the truck as much.

P.S. I have the same truck as you and was wondering what brush guard you have on there and if you have anymore pics of it from different angles? Front, side, top, etc. How do you like it? I'm looking at getting one soon.

 

its a aries grill gaurd i ordered it from a local 4x4 shop. it was like $250 plus the $35 autozone fogs

the only thing about the AALs is that im afraid that the back is going to be alot higher than the front.....

How bright are the auto zone lights? I was looking at getting them but I have Hella's 500 and 100w lamps up top.

 

man they are SUPER bright! they suprised the hell out of me....i got them because i didnt see paying all the money for hellas when i really dont do that much offroading in my truck so i thought why spend the money.

 

I guess you've already ordered them, but I was gonna say go for the 1 1/2" if you're afraid of the back being too high. If it is, just toss some sandbags in the back until it sits where you want!
