So I've been wanting to mount a few things to the inside of my leer camper like, a pair of quick fists, lights, axe mount etc. etc.
The problem is I don't know how the hell I can do it!
It's lined with a carpet and it's composed mainly of fiberglass so I can't just magnet everything.
I don't know if I should, or how, to drill or mount things so Im starting a thread asking for advice since I can't seem to find one!
Here's a random picture I have that can be of slight use for reference:

Bili's all around, front 5100's at 1.75", rear TSB w/AAL, 265x75/16 BFG AT, Wheelers steelies Type B 4" bs, LEER cap, Tinted, Relentless hybrid sliders welded, Cab mount chop, Plastic trimming, Sock retros, Mirror lift, Satoshi with old school emblem, WeatherTechs, Mudlaps gone, RedLine hood struts, Fumoto valve, Tailgate clamped, Console organizer, Mobtown Offroad Front Recovery Bar
    Great question.
I too have a Leer that I'd like to modify some. Would love to hear what others have done. And see pics if available.

My $0.02 - the fiberglass material is likely about 1/4" thick. Risk of going thru or cracking material. If you have a roof mount/rack, their may be some additional material that was sprayed in to support the extra roof wt that may be usable for mounting equipment onto.

There should be some supports in the shell. Give Leer a call and ask for a cad drawing or spec sheet.
I used the existing holes on my rack rails to mount fishing poles. I also drilled through to mount a roof rack, seemed pretty thick, but might have been insulation.

Mine is an ARE. The flat part of the roof is thicker. I have bolts though for the gutters that hold the roof rack on. I have attached a bunch of bungees to the bolt and hold kayak paddles and fishing poles up there. I will look for pics.

In the aerospce composites industry we use what are called potted inserts. These are positioned and then cut into the foam core. Followed then by epoxy to secure them.

An easier method would be to try Click Bond products. These are external and require no drilling.

Have a look around their catalog.

Thanks guys! This is all great, great stuff. I will try looking up the schematics from LEER about mounting holes like yours has, TacoDaTugBoat. If I don't well then fuck my life. At that point I'll try hitting those guys up, PMK.

You can see on my roof that the middle section is thicker. I have been thinking about using some really coarse thread wood screws to mount something there.

The clickbond stuff all appears to be adhesive mounted, which will not work on my carpeted cap. And I don't feel like trying to cut the carpet out in little areas to mount it. I have also been thinking about mounting some flat channel things that I saw somewhere on here. I will post here if I find them again.

I still want to hear if anyone else has more to contribute. I know there are some clever peeps on here!

Not to sound the alarm (sorry TacoDaTugBoat, not meant as a poke), and not that I'm suggesting anything like a connection... but there is a danger of showing your stuff off on the web...

Whatever you do, don't drill through the thicker part of the shell. That's a composite core and you won't be able to clamp anything down without it crushing i.e. mount your roof rack outboard of that area or you won't be able to actually tighten the nuts down. Roof racks should be out as far as possible anyways so the load weight is carried on the vertical part of the shell.

On my previous Tacoma I used some of those heavyweight picture hangers that have the loop and a metal tab that you put the screw through. I used them as the washers for the roof rack bolts. It' not like you're going to hang much weight from them so those worked fine. I had a nylon gear hammock suspended from mine which worked pretty well for drying wet clothes while driving. I also put things that I didn't want crushed up there such as a loaf of bread.

Back in the day before leash plugs were made for surfboards, we would make little "Ropes" of fiberglass strands, and then fiberglass these "ropes" to the surfboards in a half circle form. When cured, you could attach a leash to these anchor points when surfing. I thought you could attach these half circles to the shell's roof, for anchor points. What I wanted to do is make 4 anchor points so I could attach a roof cargo net like pictured. No drilling, if you have the carpet liner, you could cut a slit in the carpet and peel back, attach the anchor, then when cured re glue the carpet slit so the only thing showing would be the half circle anchor point sticking out.
Just an idea, you could get creative with this mount system and never drill holes.
