Anyone have 3 inch spacers with TRD sport suspension?

I know, I know...everyone bags on the spacers. My truck is a brand new 12 double cab with the sport package. New to the forum and just curious if anyone has the spacers with my same set up with the sport package. Since my truck is brand new I am curious if the spacers may be a good option and just keep the stock sport suspension set up. I barely off road, if anything occasional mountain roads and dirt roads, but nothing major. If I got a lift, goal would be more room for bigger tires and for looks.

I know there are a lot of threads discussing the spacers and other lift kits, wondering if anyone has spacers with sport suspension.

 

Spacers suck! I'n all seriousness, all it will do is put more wear and tear on your stock components. If you're looking to lift look into the Bilstein 5100's or the Old Man Emu 3" Suspension lift

i had a reg cab with TRD Sport bilsteins with rear blocks and front spacers. it sucked. i then put a set of OME 884x coils on the front with AAL's in the back, and its was eh... now i have a 2008 Double cab short bed with 5100s and wheelers 3leaf AAL packs, and it honestly rides better than new, plus gained 2.5-3". spacers work for what you want them for, they DO lift your truck, but alignment will be off, unless you get UCA's, and if youre going to spend money for UCA's you might as well get a decent suspension set up too. my reg cab ruined tires within 1500 miles, it was the worst. youd get a set of MT's, they would run smooth for 2-3 months and chop like a bastard. then your steering wheel would shake, you could hear the treads slapping the pavement, my reg cab had 27k miles on it and blew a front wheel bearing because of the spacers. it just sucked. so can you go with spacers? sure. are they cheap? yup. do they provide a lift? yup. but everything else you ruin with them is not worth it. save up for bilstein 5100s or an OME set up IMO.

 

I had a 3in toytec spacer lift with my sport suspension. Rode like shit. Upgraded to fully adjustable coil overs and never looked back. IMO, DON'T DO IT.

 

Cool, Thanks for the info everyone, gives me a realistic idea of what to expect. There are other things on my list before the lift, sounds like something to wait on. Especially, with the truck being brand new and I really like the way the sport suspension drives. Maybe just upgrade the tire size to fill out the wheel well and make it look a little bigger.

 

i have spacers on the sport suspension. there ok on the road, suck off road, but there cheap. theres better options out there if you have the money to spend. btw i have had these for about two years and 50,000 miles with no problems.

 

for city and dirt roads, I'm sure it will be fine, however, I'd suggest a spacer like the readylift. It goes on top of the shocks, it's easy to install, and doesn't effect ride quality, the spacers that go inside the coil are the ones that make the ride rough.

neither spacer will wear other stock parts any more than a coilover thats set to the same amount of lift.

 

Not true, even the spacers that go on top (like mine) will affect ride (more stiff) but hey its a truck.

 

what kind of lift do you have?

most of them put a spacer on top, and a spacer inside the coil to get a full 3'', and that will effect ride quality.

I have just the spacer on top. anytime you lift something you will change the ride quality good or bad. with a spacer it will be on the bad side but like i said its cheap and gets the job done.

 

also your VSC will not work right after lift not a problem in a city, but in the country it is.

 

If you are off roading yes, because it has less down travel, but the shock compression doesn't change like it does with an in coil spacer, so the shock will react like normal.

it's not 100% of people with lifted Tacomas having trouble with VSC.

 

If you just buy 5100's for the front your spend around the same price as a spacer lift. TaLk to Downsouth Motorsports your get a TW discount and free shipping. If you haven't had the rear spring tsb done schedule it after you put the 5100's on. That way your get the rear lifted and a alighnment as well. All at no cost to you.

 

I have heard the same thing about the spacer that goes on top of the shock...that it doesn't affect the stock parts as much and lasts well...maybe it's just bigger tires for me though. Thanks for all the info!
