So about a month ago, I realized my truck didn't turn right over when I went to start it. So just to be safe I disconnected my auxiliary fuse block. I figured that if I'd wired something wrong, the battery would recharge and be okay. Over the last month, I've had all my stuff disconnected and the truck wasn't turning over any better. Today, click click click, no starting at all.

Ive got someone coming to help me jump start it. The question is, should I take all my stuff off (pa, cb, bed lights, inverter in the cab, rear center window actuator) before I take it to Toyota. I'm at 2 years, and 18,000 miles so I'm still under warranty. I know it's not the fault of my stuff because it's all been disconnected for a month, but will Toyota just say that my warranty is void on the batter cuz of what I've connected? My grandpas an electrical engineer and helped my wire this stuff, and it all had been on there for at least 6 months before any problems began...

    Please comment.

Ive had other vehicles besides the taco that did this. Turned out the Batt was shit. Ya they should typically last longer then 2 years but maybe not? Have it bench checked.

Battery was measured at 284 cca, when it's rated at 710 cca.

    Battery is shot.

God, I thought tacomas weren't supposed to do this.

If I just bought a new battery would my problems be fixed?

Or does a shot battery mean there's a leak or something??

Anyone know how long a battery is warranted for?

My truck is 2 years and 2 weeks old.

So do you guys think it's just a bad battery?

Or do you think something's leaking and killing the battery's on the tacomas?

About a month ago it didn't turn over perfectly, but only someone pretty attuned to their vehicle woulda noticed it. In other words, to most people it woulda seemed fine. Just to be safe, I disconnected the positive lead to my aux fuse block. Figuring that of it was my fault the battery would recharge its self and be fine. The same slight proble, occurred for the last month, and today it won't start.

Basically I disconnected my stuff to be sure it wasn't my stuff draining the battery.

Would it make send to upgrade to an optima red top or something. I see they're like 165.

I plan on adding light bars and stuff in the future.

Toyotas always a pain to deal with, and I really would rather not take all my stuff off the truck. I have a ton of work into putting all that stuff on the truck.

Is there any way to tell if there's a slow leak? I have a multimeter. Can I just measure if there's amp draw when the trucks turned off or something.

Id like to know that there isn't a leak for sure, though it just seems like a bad battery.

    Alright, I'll do some research

I've heard of red tops a lot and we have them in my grandpas vintage cars and they worked well, so I just went to check those for price first.

I assume there's some battery threads on here that I can read through to find the best battery.

Also, I, going to college in September and the truck can't come my freshman year so it will sit a lot.

I plan on putting a battery tender on it for the time that it just sits in a garage, but are some batteries better for sitting?

Out 328i BMW went 13 years on oem battery, bet used 4 transmissions in that time, so every car has its problems and it's good things.

just replaced the battery on my wifes car left her stranded in between dallas and houston. it test 75 amps. gone but really gone. i think if you can show with your stuff connected and your batter is receiving the volts and amps that are in tolerance then they cant blame your add ons. bumper to bumper should include everything and the dealer should not be hassled by there warranty depot as much as say the extended warranty guys

Why are you blaming the Tacoma? Toyota didn't build the battery. I wouldn't even blame the battery manufacturer. As others have said, even the very best products have problems occasionally (aka "sh*t happens').
