While I live "close" at 45 minutes away; you should really be envious of Aaron. He lives 20 mins from the Saucer and less than 5 mins from World of Beer. I have also heard of another place on the west side of downtown Ft Worth that is like the Saucer but cheaper. He is closer to it also.

If you can afford the down payment, (20% to avoid PMI) then i say do it. It usually ends up being about the same or slightly less than rent for a comparable place, and you have equity in the property. I.e. when it sells, you get all the profits after the loan amount remaining is deducted.

There are folks that have done calculations that show even if you take a loss on the the house, if you have been there for X amount of time, you are no worse off than if you were renting. Those are a case by case basis obviously, but it's pretty interesting.

Midland actually has a way better beer selection than Tyler. We have a place here that has 300+ bottled craft beers, and will order you anything you want. And they have a half dozen microbrews on tap that change every week. Certainly no comparison to the saucer, but not bad for out here.

So.... Anyone live in Austin or know anyone who lives in Austin (or close to it) that would be willing to put me up and show me around TX for a few days? I am looking to move down there after I graduate school and would like to make sure that I am making a good choice in doing so. I don't check this thread often so shooting me a pm may be best.

I'm not sure how many Austin members we have in here; but good luck with it. Why do you think Texas would be a good fit?

    Really? wtf?

It was funny because I noticed your truck and asked my wife to take a pic. She wasn't sure why but did it anyways. Then she commented about the cool stickers, lol.

Zech how hard is it to bend an axle shaft? Its either that or the locker is busted up. Because even in a straight line it clicks and locks/unlocks more violently turning left

Yep, we were headed to the Flying Saucer for dinner and some beer cheese soup. We live in Granbury so it isn't a bad drive.

My two favorite activities to do are hunt and fish. 9 months of winter here does not really support that. From what I have heard, Texas also has a lot of technology and business going on. Also, I am not a fan of the cold...
