Taking off the Tacoma letters

Im debating wether i should paint them black to go with my black rims, I have a white tacoma and if it doesnt look good im going to just take the letters off. Whats the best way to take them off?

 

Fishing line and a hair dryer

 

fishing line. and then pick the goo off with your finger nail. then wash truck.

worked for me. that easy and they been on since '07. did it about a month ago

 

u dont need a hair dryer. thats too much going on. the emblem goo doesnt get that hard.

 

The hairdryer method means less for the goo gone to take off. I've done it both ways. Not necessary, but a plus.

 

Just get them hot and pull them off with pliers if you don't want them anymore. If you want to keep them good, Yes, fishing line behind them and them rub the tape off with your finger as best as you can. After that any solvent like prepsol, or even GOO GONE will work to clean up the rest.

 

wd40 works for the goo.

if paint leaves a shadow use some paint polish sh-. i think it was malg something? dont remember the brand.

 

Hair dryer plus fishing line to pull 'em off, WD40 or Goo Gone to get rid of the adhesive.

I like the blacked out badge look myself.

I prefer to have fun when I do these little modifications.

You will need I pair of vise grips, I piece of rope, and a bobcat.

Now... latch those vise grips on to the first letter you want to remove. Lock them down tight. Tie one end of the rope to the vise grips and the other end to the bobcat. Make sure the bobcat is parked perpendicular to the side of the vehicle that you are removing the letter from. Now drive the bobcat away from the vehicle as fast as it will go.

Repeat this with every emblem and viola, you are debadged!

 

What is the best way to black them out?

 

Spray paint. Krylon Fusion bonds to them with no prep work needed.

 

Will I even need fishing line if it's 100+ degrees out?

 

Yup... Won't need the hair dryer but it still helps out a bit.

 

I've been thinking of doing mine copper on my indigo ink, too chochy?

 

i let mine it in the sun all day and just pulled them off without the use of fishing line, but that was on a brand new truck.

 

Anybody have a pic of it blacked out they can post so i can see what it looks like?
