600lb or 800lb WD Hitch?

    I just picked up a decent used hybrid TT and am looking for a low cost weight distributing hitch. The two that I'm looking at are the
    $303 EAZ LIFT Camco Eaz-Lift Elite 600lb Weight Distribution Hitch with Height Adjustable Forged Shank (48051)
    600lb and
    $352 EAZ LIFT Camco Eaz-Lift Elite 800lb Weight Distribution Hitch with Height Adjustable Forged Shank (48052)
    800lb Camco units. My TT is 3900lbs dry with a tongue weight of 440lbs.

    Would either of the two hitches I'm looking at be preferable over the other? The trailer obviously fits under both of their limits, but I'm curious to know if there would be benefits or drawbacks to using either. Thanks.

    You really need to know the loaded tongue weight.
    The TT we own lists 440 lbs as tongue weight also, but loaded it easily tops 650 lbs.

    Fair enough, but let's assume it comes in under 600lbs. Would there be benefits or drawbacks going with the oversized 800lb unit?

    There is not that much difference between 600 and 800 lbs, so I would probably go with the heavier one.
    Too much tongue weight rating can result in a difficult to adjust hitch, and too much weight transfer with a lot of forces on your frame and trailer hitch. Probably not with a 800 lbs model though.

    so which hitch did you decide to go with? I am picking up one TT this weekend with a tongue weight of 390. Not sure how much the loaded tongue weight is.
    What did you use for the brake controller? did you get one

    I haven't pulled the trigger on either yet. I'll probably go with a 750lb or 800lb WD hitch.

    As for the brake controller, I picked up a Tekonsha P3. The price difference was minimal between it and the Prodigy P2, so I said what the heck.

    I picked up a P2 from etrailer.
    I am a little worried about the wdh I am getting. it has a rating of 10,000lb max trailer and a 1000lb max tongue weight. The owner of the trailer is giving this with the trailer.
    does anyone think that its not a good idea for me to use this wdh for my
    Dry gross weight-3375
    Tongue weight -390
    trailer?

    do you use a additional side view mirror?

    You will need at least the passenger side. My trailer is only 7 feet wide and I barely can see.

    What trailer did you get?

    Yeah, that WDH is probably a bit too much. It will be difficult to adjust correctly, and could actually do damage transferring too much weight. I'd look for something in the 600 / 6,000 lbs category.
