Milk and Taco's Yumm

So, my wife and I tried to get ahead of the weekend festivities by getting our grocery shopping done tonight. Big mistake. On the way back from the grocery store a half gallon of skim milk spilled all over the rear passenger floor area. The rubber matts picked up some of it. I used a wet/dry vacuum and then carpet steam cleaner until I couldn't grip the darn thing.

So I did a little searching on the forum and saw a few remedies: use peroxide (hmm, won't that cause major staining?); pull out the seat and lift the carpet up.

I like the latter idea, but does anyone know where to begin to pull the rear seat out, pull up the carpet to remedy the situation?

What is the level of effort to put new carpet in?

Any idea on cost?

I guess really I'd have to do it myself.

I am really bumbed and the bad thing it is gonna rain here tonight and tomorrow so I can't work on it.

Thoughts, remedies are welcome. Thank you.

 

I don't know if peroxide removes milk, but my wife has used it to remove blood from my clothing before. It works great & no stain or discoloration

Yea, I will keep searching to see if there is a remedy.

I wonder how much peroxide it would take? Hmmm. Guess I will try it when CVS opens tomorrow.

Perhaps some type of enzymes might work?

 

try some Laundry stain remover. Lemon Juice might work. White Vinegar with 1/3 part water will work.

You know another solution my dad uses in his new Ford. He's always getting dirt & mud & grease in his truck.
He uses simple green, a water hose & a shop vac.

That damn truck still looks brand new.

My wife's Nitro had stains in the seat from my kiddo. I used the water hose & shop vac in there & it's spotless now.

 

One thing is for sure after reading this, I will pay much more attention the next time a gallon of milk goes into my truck. If it was me, I would remove the back seats, pull the carpet and clean up anywhere the milk got to. Taking that steam cleaner to the underside of your carpeting couldn't hurt anything. Good luck with the clean up.

Yea man, I can't wait until the smell comes.. I gotta beat it... I guess it will be my weekend project. I think you're right -- I am going to have to pull the seat so I can get the carpet up...

I think Simple Green would be too much on the inside. I do use that to clean my MTB and sometimes the shed and siding... I cant imagine that smell with milk - yuck!

Just try all of them that I mentioned. They shouldnt stain your carpet.


What about carpet shampoo?

 

So I just soaked it with vinegar... Will check on it in the AM. I'll have to figure out how to pull the seats. Shouldnt be too bad though.. Maybe some of the stereo threads will have some info?

If the vinegar doesnt work. Try baking soda with it. Or a really good carpet shampoo and a vacuum

 

Yea, I have a double cab. I want to be able to lift up the carpet.

Also, do you have any idea how you pri up the plastic covers the go between the carpet and door? I am sure they just snap in... Was just looking through the available manuals on But haven't found anything on carpet yet...

 

The plastic covers that go under the door? Yeah I know the name im just brain dead right now (Sick) Pull the side up that is near the dash. Pull up with equal force all the way down and at the same time( you dont want to bend them. Now once you have the first one off, do the same for the back one.

I think you can just pull up the carpet...

 

Well, not sure. The plastic covers that are ribbed somewhat and act as a barrier from carpet to frame. The are on the floor. Typically there are wires underneath them. They feel pretty snug and I dont want to force them in any way.

 

Oh yeah I know what youre taklking about. The door sills. If you go down the cover (from the dash)and pull up towards the back, you will be fine. I've done it plenty of times when Im vacuuming. So much dirt and debris gets trapped in there...

 

I just replaced the carpet in my 07.................. its very easy to remove. The seats just unbolt. The plastic you are discussing is just a clip. Insert a small flat blade driver to release the clip.
