I agree... looks seated to me. Probably the seal like you thought... It's not too hard to replace if it's anything like a 1st gen.... get the CV out and then just use the claw side of a hammer or crow bar to pry the old seal out, then use some sort of seal driver (old race, bearing cup, pipe, large socket, rent a driver from autozone etc...) to seat the new seal. Just make sure to not drive it in to far! (I made that mistake the first time I did it...) the little lips of the seal should actually stick out when looking at it from the front of the diff (like in the picture above). Also, it might be good to sand down the cv/metal flange where it seats on the seal, and apply RTV to the outside edge of the seal.... Also, this is my process for a 1st gen so you alslo might want to confirm this with a 2nd gen. hahaha but my guess is that they're pretty similar.. Good luck!
