Hey has anyone ever thought of putting an intercooler in a tacoma and installing a water sprayer like an STi has? My truck was running really hot today because of the 100 degree weather and i thought... Sure would be nice to be able to spray my intercooler...

Mine was running around 220-230 all day, Not super hot but it still got me nervous because usually it runs 170-180 and never over 200... My intake was taking in 150 degree air! Fuck its hot boys!

Hmm yea that's hotter than I have seen. Might look into replacing the thermostat. Could be clogged up or broken. Also if the coolant is too old it could have lost some of its thermodynamic properties.

Check the thermostat cap too. In addition to keeping the fluid in they also serve a purpose a lot of people aren't aware of and that's to pressurize the coolant system. If your cap isn't holding the pressure it can cause your system to overheat even if your stat is still functioning properly. So, I would recommend checking your fluid level first as a small loss of fluid can cause large problems much like the cap problem described. Between those three things you will most likely solve your problem and it's all relatively easy to do and inexpensive too. Good luck and post back!

Big waste of money for our truck unless you have bored out the cylinders, added a super charger, upgraded the injectors, replaced the pistons, added long tube headers, dropped the truck to inches off the ground, and adding a big ass spoiler. :D
Make sure the spoiler is non functional though, don't want it to add any drag ;)

An STi also has something our trucks don't have... a turbo charger. Don't waste your time with those mods on a naturally aspirated engine.

I am not so familiar with the newer thermostat designs. Only really dealt with the ones that there are no cap, the radiator hose connects to the top and the coolant flows through to the radiator.

Just learned today that you can buy a turbo timer for your car. Basically idling the car after shutting down to keep oil flow through the turbo to cool it down.

Before my Tacoma I had a 1986 Toyota pickup 22RE 2WD for 4 years and a 93 ford explorer for 3 years. I was far from anything with a turbo or any power.

I've been driving a couple of decades now and have had more vehicles than I can count since I used to change them like I change my underwear plus regularly had several at a time. Probably half were forced induction and I love modifying them myself so I've got plenty of experience with forced induction.

Before anyone else says it.... Cool story bro!

Also you only really need a turbo timer if, you drive it hard before you park and if your turbo isn't water cooled.

I usually just pop the hood a cool the engine with a couple squirts from a spray bottle. Seems to work just fine.

I miss my Camaro. Even though it ran hot :( I wired up a fan switch and kept the fan on whenever I'd drive it. Kept it nice and cool
