this is a no brainer. would be an awesome option. the new eight-cylinder produces 310 hp and 327 lb-ft of torque while delivering an estimated 15 mpg city / 20 mpg highway. of course the current v6 and i4 will remain, but will get tweaked to produce more power and fuel efficient. would do you all think?

someone posted a tread like this last week. I dont think the tacoma would be able to handle the differences with the V8 without som major redesigns. For the next gerneration however it might be a different story

I think people are going to want better economy on the next gen. Isn't there legislation to have all SUV's or trucks average 18 MPG or better, or something to that effect in the near future?

dont know, but I dont think the V8 would do too well in a taco...seems like something ford would try :)

The new CAFE standards are going to kill V8 engines in just about everything except big trucks. This is what happens when you let a government that caters to environmentalists dictate to car companys what to build. In the end the consumer loses. JMO.

The current proposed legislation by this new administration is actually that all trucks, SUVs, and cars must be powered by hopes and dreams.

More like GM and Dodge... There are the only ones who offer a V8 in their mid size trucks.. The Colorado/Canyon and the Dakota.....

If you want a V8 buy a Tundra, I like the V6 just fine in the taco. A small diesel would be nice.

My prediction is no V8 and the same 4.0 though updated with Dual VVT-i or maybe even Toyota's new Valvematic along with maybe a few other additions/changes. I will also predict more than 265 HP and 300 lb/ft of torque for the 4.0. Maybe it is just wishful thinking though :D.

    X2.
Add a supercharger and you'll get 304 HP and about the same torque of the 4.7L and MPGs will be better than the 4.7L.
