AVP is not part of the Alien/Aliens franchise (although I'd like to say the same about Alien 3 and 4).

Good question, I wonder what the Engineers were running away from?

How is it not? They had Lance Hendrickson in there, Weyland Corp (With Miss Yutani at the end of it.) and there were Aliens. While I get that there is not direct connection to Ripley saying it's not part of the Franchise is just ludicrous.

And Alien 3 was awesome. It was a space drama with Aliens plain and simple. The acting was second to none however the graphics were horrible even for that time period. (When you consider that Jurassic Park came out the year prior.) Alien 4 was another total Franchise grab. All action and witty one liners. (Anyone else want to vomit when Call goes "What...the fuck.". Ugh. Horrible horrible.)

Because all the Characters in Prometheus where just lovable and served a purpose greater than being killed off in lame ways? Sorry but AVP:R had a great cast, the Chars you really liked, The Drifter, Kid Brother and Army Chick all live, and the the ones you hated, Douche-bag Boyfriend and Stupid Blonde die.

Then I presume you mean we are more demanding in quality and substance than the rest of the world. We have more refined taste and are not swayed with shallow special FX and "Brand Name" directors.

Talking about how much a movie sucked or was riddled with plot holes is not a good thing. You honestly have to completely turn your brain off to enjoy the movie as it violates so many basic principles and expectations.

Like - oh, I have to drug test to work at Walmart, and be searched to ride a city buss - BUT.... there is no drug testing or searching to fly across the galaxy on a multi-trillion dollar space expedition to discover the origins of man!!

On that subject - why would a dying Trillionaire have to lie about what the expedition is and who is coming? With 6-billion people in this world he would easily find 30 capable individuals that would keep the secrete and be dedicated to the very end to accomplish his goal of meeting the Engineers and getting his life extended.

Russia and China put a team together that was willing sit in a "simulated" space trip to Mars for two years and only payed those guys $20k a year and they didn't even go to mars.. just locked in a simulator for TWO YEARS.

There are hundreds of negative reviews out there highlighting all the plot-holes, character deficiencies and logic gaps with the movie. It was a total rush/hack job and a poor attempt at "Being original - but not really, just kidding".

I'm not hating this movie because it lacked the OMFG-MICHELLE BAY EXPLOSIONS!!! But because it expects you to be completely retarded and overlook all the inconstancies and just "dumb stuff" that happens.

Yes, lets take our helmets off in a moldy dark alien tomb because our wrist band says the air is breathable... never mind bacterial, poison gas, weird slim, mold, viruses... ect ect ect
I, a non-scientist, can figure out the stupidity of this... so why should I be forced to believe a real scientist in the future would think it's a brilliant idea.

At first I was really annoyed at the hipster Scientology couple (Dr. Shaw and Halloway). I thought they were pretentious and arrogant, looking down on the other crew who didnt believe in their alien face fucker gods.

I smiled when Charlie burned to death, but i started to like Dr. Shaw more towards the end simply because she is downright bad ass.

Agreed, but I never warmed up to Shaw... as I stated earlier, a better ending would have been Shaw is smashed and Vickers lives.

That's the problem with the whole movie, you have to assume everything. We only know what we saw and what we were told in the movie and that's not a lot. No I dont want transformers 4 type bullshit, but when a top notch director, 200million budget, and all the hype, this is the final product? F- in my book! They cant make a summer blockbuster movie only for the Alien geeks that know all the back articles and interviews with Scott to have any clue what anything means. Bull shit. YOu can totaly make an original thought provoking movie without it sucking and a bunch of d bags crying well you need everything spoon fed, you're a dumbass American, you don't know the original Alien movie. You sound like Star Trek geeks. Give a back story and some basic info so the audience doesn't need to look it up in forums and bitch about it. And if the idea is to get the answers in the sequal thats even more bullshit, because Prometheus was suppose to have answers for the original Alien! AHHHHH!

Yeah, I'm going to have to say you have horrible taste in movies. Ever seen Blade Runner? If so, don't ever read the book. While considered one of the pinnacles of modern Science Fiction it leaves things to the reader/viewer to make their own mind up on. Or what you call plot holes.

Ever think maybe pot isn't illegal in the future? Or that because it's a British Company (Weyland is a British name, if you read about the history behind the company it tells you they were going for a UK/Japanese coalition.) they might have laxer restrictions on soft drugs. Much like Denmark.

If you found AVP:R to have quality substance and taste you're sorely mistaken. And that's not even my personal opinion. That's popular consensus.

You actually have to engage your brain because the movie doesn't spell out ever little detail. It forces you to think beyond what it told or shown.

Ever think if they can travel hundreds or thousands of lightyears they have scanners that tell them if there's any viruses, bacteria, mold or douche bags in the air? Just a thought. When working industrial I have a monitor that will tell me if there are less than 10 ppm of a specific gas in the air. (Actually it'll tell me if there's any one of 4 different gases.) I'm sure in 100 years time they can perfect that tech to detect other things.

You didn't like the movie, that's cool. I realize that not everyone is going to have the same enthusiasm as I do. But to say it's a horrible movie just shows a lack of appreciation for what is at the utter least a well done science fiction movie.

Really? I take your some sort of hipster douche that gets all tingly about independent films about pregnant teenage girls and gets but hurt when said film goes mainstream.

Deep man... totally. Ever think that it would be illogical to spend a few hundred million on a clueless, cowardly stoner who then makes the idiotic decision to split up from the group, fail to follow orders and then gets himself killed - only to come back and kill his team mates?

Once again, your asking me to suspend all logic and just accept that it's some sort of deep political insite into the future of drug legalization and it was not a stupid "humor and tension relief" for the movie to lure the audience into false comfort so we can then be "Shock" with the alien cobra attack... totally did not see that coming..

Thats is ironic, seeing I felt the movie required you to turn your brain off to find enjoyment in it.

Actually, no. They are still using flashlights and can't even detect that massive metal structure under them. Simple Sonar would have done that just fine.

Should I also presume that in the future Vickers lived because they are able to rebuild people from the cellular level - cause you know, its the future?

You are trying to explain away poor story writing and movie making.

You see "this med module is for male's only" as some sort of deep hint that it was for Weyland and he didn't give a shit about his daughter. I see it as a poor attempt to ramp up suspense for the alien C-section as she is panicing trying to find away to get the machine to cut it out of her.

Oh i "understood it". I actually liked it leaving the theater. However the more I thought about it, the more I saw it as a cheap hack job.

The movie isn’t without fault. There are some dumb sequences in the movie (such as David’s head being in the same exact spot after the spaceship collision and crash), but it is overshadowed by overall concept IMO. What are plot holes for some are interpretation points for others. The mystery is engaging IMO and almost every loose end in the story could be explained if needed, even if you don't want to accept current theories.

I have a theory that that engineer in stasis was a nutbag. He went mad and deliberately sabotaged whatever what was going on there. This can explain why he was in stasis when everyone else was killed, what caused the incident(s), why he seemingly stroked David’s head just before he flew off the handle and started killing everyone, and the confusion as seen by the images of some of the engineers running from something. This could explain the pile of bodies as found by the two idiot scientists. Someone had to pile them up there.

There’s a plausible theory for everything in the story.

Ridley Scott has thoughts too deep for the average viewer or fan. For instance, in the TED viral trailer, a young Peter Weyland quotes a piece of from the ancient religion called Zarathrustra. If you look at the symbol associated to this religion, it is VERY similar to the Weyland industries logo used in Alien or Aliens. There is a lot of ambiguous detail here that is missed by most.
