Maybe I am making this up, but I thought I read somewhere where it said you needed .75 grams of protein for every pound you weigh. I could be very wrong, but I thought I seen that somewhere

    Deadlifts cause pec tears?
    Never heard of that.
In reference to your protein question 1-1.5g per pound of bodyweight is ideal depending on your actively levels.
Regardless, u have to be in calorie surplus to gain. Does this mean u can eat crap? Sure...then you'll look like crap. I'd recommend quality lean protein sources: low fat turkey, chicken breast (baked) lean beef, egg, egg whites, shakes....

    Carbs:
    Rice cakes
    Rice
    Potato (white or sweet)
    Oats
    ....many more

    Fat:
    Almond butter
    Almonds
    All natural peanut butter

    ...many more

The food you eat is way more important than what kind of protein you use. Take a look at the old greek and roman sculptures. They have awesome bodies and they never took a single shake or pre workout. Not saying they're useless, just not as important as most think.

I've read that it can. Not that it usually does. Couple guys I go to school work confirmed that it might. They are P.E. major so they have some kineseology(sp) class to back up what they say lol.

Would you guys dead lift away?

I would stretch and massage it. Wouldnt even lift, a few days out of the gym is better than hiring it more.

like i said, injuring a pec while dead lifting should not be an worry because if you are using correct form, not over training, and lifting with in your abilities then you have nothing to worry about.

you can get in an auto accident every time you go drive somewhere, but that doesn't stop you from driving...

    Deadlifts build lower back/hammys, forearms

Like Matt said, if you injure one of your pectoral muscles something about the form is in-correct...and lower the weight

As for the injuries-work around them using light resistance if you can, or just take that week off from anything that involves training near said injury (easier said then done, I know)

i needed something to take on my camping trip, so i have a baggie of protein for my morning shake and my night time casein. since i have seriously cleaned my diets, i was consuming large amounts of calories yes but it wasn't clean. now that it seriously is perfect my strength gains are going thru the roof!
