I hate the chrome on my grill!!!!

i have sanded and painted sanded and painted and on and on for 2 weeks now and my chrome to white grill doesnt come out like all of you here on tw! imma have to buy a replacement soon

how many of you have ruined yalls grills? i hope im not the only one.

Depends on what you want. I got a color matched grill from him and love it. No regrets and always get compliments on it. He does quality work.

 

What paint are you using? Brand of white paint and what brand of clear coat?

I have always read that the super white is tough to match.

Is the paint not sticking, not smooth or not a close match to the truck's color?

 

i used color match for toyota but did not match at all and its not sticking. brand is duplicolor. its been the biggest PIA. it slowly falls off even with the primer. i know its something im doing just havent figured it out yet

It does seem to be some sort of art getting a spray can to color match parts to work right. I color matched my silver grill with the Duplicolor spray cans and it turned out pretty good. I didn't like the duplicolor clear coat, it seemed to have a yellow tint to it.

I did these steps.
Sand down the chrome.
Adhesion promoter then grey primer
sand down smooth but not deeper than the primer
color coat, about 3 to 4 light layers then a heavier layer
let it completely dry
then to the clear coat

what sand paper did you use? do you remember?

man your truck looks nice our front end are so similar i like the plasti dip!

 

For the chrome, 200 grit then 600 to 800 to smooth it out
For the primer, 600, you don't want to get it so smooth the paint doesn't stick, just make it level. This also will remove the loose spray paint that didn't bond fully.

If you get deep scratches in the plastic from sanding, you can get high fill primer. To fill them in and sand smooth.
