Did you buy brand new? If so why arent/wouldnt you participate on the maintenance program by toyota?

After my term of free maintenance is up, I will go to synthetic every 5000

After my 2 years Toyota free maintenance is up, I will be putting in Mobil 1. Been using that on my other car for 8 years without any problems.

4 cylinder, not that it would hurt the 6 if you did.

I called Toyota and asked for a full synthetic upgrade on my first 2012 oil change. They said it was gonna be like $30 or something. When i got the truck back they said i owed them nothing because synthetic comes with the truck already.

Not my 2012, it came with conventional oil. Only 4cyl come with synthetic to my knowledge. I asked for synthetic with mine they said $30 extra. They also recommended using 5w-30 synthetic when I do change and that I could go 7500 miles before changing. My oil fill cap says 5w-30. Maybe some dealers are putting synthetic in their Taco's?

5w-30 conventional oil.................but the FJ's and Tundra V6's get synthetic, although their V6 is different than the Taco's i think

Did your salesman tell you it came with synthetic? They tend to blow smoke up a person's ass.

    From the 2012 manual:

"SAE 5W-30" is the only requirement for the 1GR-FE.

Had my 5k oil change recently. My Toyota Care card has the oil type as conventional. I asked my service guy to put synthetic (5W-30) and they charged me $40. My work write up stated they used Mobile 1 synthetic oil for the change.

My owners manual states 5w-30. Haven't had my first change yet, but I'll be requesting synthetic.
