Wife has a large group of German friends that will be going to this, yes hot German chicks too.

This should be plenty of notice for people to request time off and get things in order.
Looking to get a mature group together for a laid back day down the river.
Some people bring their own tubes others rent (click the link for other details). If you bring your own we could set up a little shuttle type process of our own to bring tubes and coolers up from the end back to the main area. I'm sure most people on here have been down the river so most of us know what to expect there.

 

Interested! I loved tubing down the river with a group back in the day.

Let's get a few folks together for a "river radio mod day" so we can build a good durable river radio to float down with. Anyone with access to used/cheap marine audio/speaker products would be a bonus. Splash-proof is all we need. Anyone with an old car battery that they can charge up and possibly sacrifice (if it falls through the bottom) would be a huge bonus. Or we could pool up a few bucks each and hit up a swap meet to get everything. Last time I built one, it cost $30 in wood, stereo, speakers and used car battery. Park n Swap FTMFW

How do you float that down the river with any stability? It's too big to fit into a tube.

I'm talking about a radio that fits on top of an inner tube on a round wooden platform, but has a hole in the middle with a box built underneath to hold the battery. The radio is mounted above the platform, on a square wooden structure that also has speakers pointing in all directions. Lift up the top and there's storage for your valuables even if it flips over. The round platform has a few holes drilled around the edges so you can actually tie it to the inner tube so if it does flip over for some reason, everything stays attached. We actually had our first one flip over when it got snagged on some of those overhanging branches, and it was submerged. We popped it rightside-up and it kept playing the whole time.

I have had this cooler for 4 years now. Has lasted numerous trips down the river, the dunes, the pool, etc. There are many TW members that have seen it in action

It sits into a three person raft. Then we all tie around the raft. I have pre made ~3 foot pieces of rope with a caribeaner (sp?) On each one. you loop the rope through your tube and connect it to the raft. We have had 10 or more people tied around it. It can hold two 30 packs, plus waters, gatorades, jugs, food, etc. It has a dry section for food, clothes, etc. It's completely waterproof, charges with a trickle charger with the end permanently connected for easy charging. Lawnmower battery, power switch, waterproof speakers, lift strut to cancel weight.. you can open it with a pinky. Lol

Raft would do it. Just takes up more space and adds to the expense. I like simplicity, but yours sounds like it would do the job.

 

I hear ya. I have another one designed and drawn up right now as well. More of what your talking about. Build it from scratch to fit inside a tube.

Honestly, its not that bad to deal with. I've always had a truck so moving it Is easy. It does weigh a bit, especially loaded, but we always go with a big group. Everything including the raft fits in my truck and was less than 300 bucks to build. The raft has lasted the 4 years as well.

I'll try.. heres the sit-rep. My cousin is coming in from Oklahoma from July 20th through the 29th. I have that whole week off. I was planning on going to the river atleast once while he is here.. the 28th might be cutting it close tho ya know.

 

Did you forget we live in the desert? It's always hot.

 

I want to get one of those giant floating islands from Costco and float down on that bitch. Cup holders, a place in the middle to get wet and cool off, etc.

 

That would be pretty sweet, always thought about getting one as well. Just didn't want to lug that thing in and out of the water though.

I went tubing last weekend and it was a blast. I may be down to go again in July. We have the colorado here in Yuma but its really calm and i love the small rapids at the salt river.

 

Might I suggest a cloth top'd fullsize to queensize blow up mattress. Best trip down the river I ever had.....
