15K mile recommended service.

Brought my Tacoma in for an oil change today and the dealer recommended I have the cabin Air filter changed and to have the throttle body cleaned. Told them not to do it since my last Tacoma (1st gen.) had a 150k miles on it and I never had anything like that done to it and it ran like a champ. I would like to get other Tacoma owners opinion on this. Thanks

 

more of the stealership trying to push a service that probably isnt needed. unless you run your ac in the "fresh air" mode everyday,all day.....you probably wont need a cabin air filter till around 30k miles or so. cleaning the throttle body is good to do around every 15k(this is when i do mine), but it wont hurt , especially if the engine/throttle is smooth, to wait till 30k to do it. just my .02!!!

 

I got pretty much the same song and dance. They wanted to replace both the cabin filter and the air filter at 15k. miles. I told them that I had the Borla Intake and they changed their tune. They said, Uh, Oh.. You don't need to change that one until 100k. miles. It's not the dealer that I bought if from. It just happens to be only a few minutes from the house. I doubt I'll be going back.

How the hell do you clean the throttle body?

 

unclamp the intake hose going to the tb, then spray the throat and throttle plate with air intake/throttle body cleaner.....let dry,then crank truck!! truck will idle smoother after doing this.

 

Those are simple enough tasks that you should be able to do it yourself. Screw the fucking stealer.

My dealership had a customer appreciation dinner and tried to convince owners of all the recommended services. Looked through what they sent home and throttle body cleaning was recommended at 30k.

Good news for me was I walked out with 2 free oil change certificates and the one that came with the truck I am set for the next 3.

Oh and they had 20% of parts so I sprung for the all weather mats for the front. Parts guy worked heard trying to sell me the ones for the back. Even after I explained no kids at home and an adult barely fits in the extended cab seat.

 

These stealer oil changes are not what they are cracked up to be, when we got our highlander we took it to the local stealer for the first oil change cause it was free. The idiots that did it overfilled the goddamn oil, and every few times we would start up the motor a puff of smoke would come out. So then we took it back to the stealer, they kept it overnight and figured out they overfilled the fucking oil. The dudes that do the oil changes at stealers are trained monkeys. I wouldn't trust them, shit you can't trust jiffy lube either. Best thing is do the shit yourself, at least you'll have the satisfaction of it done correctly.

 

Hmm. My wife's Camry reciently started giving an occasional puff of smoke on startup. I'll have to check the oil level.

The second and last time Boch Toyota South serviced my truck they screwed up the tire rotation, didn't set the tire pressure(which is how I knew they rotated them wrong), gaffed up the wheel centers and put 7 quarts of oil in the engine.

 

Yep, I would check the oil level in the camry, and don't take your truck to Bock Toyota South anymore, sounds like a scumbag operation they have going on.
