when the key/truck light is flashing on the dashboard...

    does that mean that the doors are unlocked?


    cause I saw this 05 taco in my local mic ds parking lot.... all day... that light is flashing yet the doors are locked.... methinks is a stolen taco.

    The flashing red key means that the engine is disabled the chip in the key turns off the blinking light when inserted . This is a security feature

    There is a transponder chip in the key that is "read" when the key is inserted in the ignition. The red key shaped light is an indicator that the starting system has been disabled because the receiver for that transponder chip is not "reading" the key. As soon as the key is inserted in the ignition the key is read and the truck will start. It's a security feature designed so that you have to not only have a key that is cut correctly but also have the transponder chip programmed for your truck so that it will start. It is also the reason that you don't want to lose your keys ( the replacements are expensive as f*ck! ).

    This indicator doesn't light up when I lock my truck, should I take it to the dealer to have them check it out? Does that mean my truck isn't locking and anyone could just drive off with it?

    Are you saying the truck with the key that's inside your truck doesn't light up when the truck (the real truck, not the one on the dash with the key in it) is locked? If that's the case when you lock your truck the truck with the key woudn't light up due to the key being inside the truck.
