5100s with eibach over 3" lift?

i have a 2nd gen tacoma
i just went to a shop to get brand new bilstein 5100 shocks and eibach coils on them
the truck had stock suspension before
the 5100s were set at .85 and now the truck got about 3.5 lift
i should have gotten only about 2.5?
will it settle or was something done wrong?
and its way out of alignment
should i set the strut to the lowest setting?

 

I bolded the reason you're sitting at 3.5". The 5100s need to be on the 0 setting for 3" of lift with the Eibach coils. The lift comes from the coils in this application, not the Bilsteins.

 

You are very wrong for 2nd Gens...For 2nd Gens, the 0 setting will get you 1.6" of lift on a double cab (a little more for 2wd and also for smaller cabs),at .85 they'll get you around 2.5" of lift.

OP, check to make sure the spring perch is installed correctly (not upside down).

OP, if your coil seat looks like this, you have problems!

If they look like this, I'm not sure why you got so much lift unless you accidently set them at 1.75:

 

I don't believe there are different ones unless you order a generic coil from Eibach (they make lots of coil springs but I believe only specifically for the Tacoma and the 5100).

 

You more than likely IMO have upside down coil spring perches. You should not have that much lift even before the springs settle.

 

Mine settled a little after the lift was installed. Maybe about a quarter of an inch. Not a huge difference but op check your perch settings and make sure they are not upside down for starters.

 

I'm thinking of doing this to mine? And have a few questions:
1) How is the ride quality?
2) Did you do anything to the rear? I have TSB but want better and was thinking Dakar.
3) What size tires on 18" wheels can you run.

Eibachs do ride nice but they are noticeable stiffer than stock coils. On rough roads they're not the greatest but are great on backroads because the truck doesn't roll in corners or dive under braking like it used to.

I used the Icon 3-leaf AAL with the overload kept in place for the rear and gained about 2" of lift (settled some because of my shell and tools). If you're thinking Dakars, you should consider OME 885's for the front. Dakars will give you around 2.5 - 2.75" of lift I believe so the 885's would give you a little more lift up front to compensate. Eibachs on 5100's set at 0 will only give you 1.6" of lift, set at .85 will give you around 2.5" of lift but the preloading will make them even stiffer.
