    So i went to Discount Tire today to order my 16x8 Moto Metal 951 rims for the 'ol truck because the kid there tells me "oh yeah, i've dealt with the Tacomas and the TPMS issue. In fact, I own a Tacoma" Wow! This sounds good, finally someone who knows the deal with the TPMS sensors and how to make them work from steelies. I get over there and start asking him questions and he can't give me answers. I ask him about strap bands and he brings me ones made for Ford but says "..we can probably rig it to work on yours... Rig it?!?!?! WTF?? This is a 2012 model! i need to know for sure, fool! So i ordered the wheels anyway, but with doubt. I might end up going to 4Wheelparts and have them price match the deal. .......................and now heres where it gets crazier! i called 4Wheelparts and his price is $100 higher because "we have specialized labor and you need nitrogen in your tires because they come like that from the factory..." SINCE WHEN DID TACOMAS COME WITH NITROGEN FILLED TIRES FROM THE FACTORY!?!?!?! ..................which one of these fools do i believe???? :cool:..............what is the real truth???

    can anyone on here tell me from personal experience how they got their moto metal 951's to work with TPMS sensors from steelies?

    You need different tpms sensors.the steel ones and one for alloy have different angles they fit against the inside of the rim..sounds like you need to buy new sensors made for alloy wheels..

    but a lot of people on here have mentioned that they had them rotate their TPMS sensors 180 degrees and made them work?

    not really. nitrogen is an inert gas inotherworlds it has Little o no moisture in it. maybe the thought is that the gas will not fluctuate in pressure as much as shop air due to moister content. but i live in the gulf coast and have had no issues with my tpms sensors i use shop air.

    The only problem I can see is that air will hold more moisture than nitrogen, the tpms have a tendancy to corrode and break.
