Bird shit paint damage?

I discovered this matte part of the clear on my truck today after washing. I remember this particular bird shit, because it looks horrible and I kind of let it stay long lol. I washed it off a month ago, and when I washed my car again today, I realized it left a mark. Is there anything I can do to get rid of this? Looks horrible on a black truck, and especially since it has bird shit shape.

Nope. It's on there for good. Bird stuff eats through clear coat.

 

There's no way to buff it out?

 

The bad news is that the paint is actually damaged.

The good news is it's repairable.

You just have to get some rubbing compound, some polish, read the directions, take your time, and use some elbow grease.

If you use an electric buffer with rubbing compound, be sure not to overdo it and either "burn" the paint or simply remove too much of it.

 

File a lawsuit against the birds?

 

sadly i did. I knew i should have washed it off, but I just winged it and well that didn't work out well. Learned my lesson tho, hard way

 

If you wanted to get real brave you could repaint your fender flare... It's not that hard if you halfway know what you're doing.

 

Thanks! I tried to buff out a few scratches, and it worked but it left the finish not as shiny as before, a bit scuffed up and matte. That's why I'm a bit hesitant to do it myself. Could it be the compound I was using? I used Turtle Wax Polish on the scratch, which made it less shiny than the rest of the car

 

Oh damn now it makes sense. I forgot it was on the fender flare. Doesn't Toyota put less clear on the flares? They never look as shiny as the rest of the car. Maybe that's why it ate away so fast?

 

It's probably just your technique. You have to buf enthusiastically with a dry rag toward the end to bring it back to a high gloss. Then use wax to keep it shiney.

 

My thinking is that buffing it out would leave a larger dull spot because what you are essentially doing is buffing away the clear coat to blend it?

 

My advice would be just the wax the shit out of it (literally). Sort of "spot wax" it. When you see "progress" find something even less abrasive and use it.

To get it completely fixed you're going to have to put some clear on it.. and some fresh paint. Most auto body/paint shops can mix up an aerosol can of paint that matches the color code for your vehicle, and they can hook you up with some good quality clear coat as well.. I would suggest removing the flare if it's not too big of a pain in the ass, rubbing it down with some 400 or higher grit sandpaper mainly around the damaged area. Hit it with the paint, then clear. You're golden.

 

I would think they look that way because they're plastic instead of sheetmetal. Therefore the raw surface isn't quite as smooth.

 

If you can't get it shiny, go see a detailer. He's got the expertise to polish it out for you.

Do NOT attempt to spray on more paint.

That should come out. Ditch the Turtle wax. I would recommend looking at autogeek or Adams polish website. Adams has a really good step by step on how to detail a car. I have used both Mirror Glaze and Adams Polish products with pretty good success. A porter cable or flex will cut down on your paint correction time.
