I can't figure out how to remove the window switch dash in my rear doors. Its not coming up as easy as the fronts did. I almost broke the plastic last night prying up on it. Whats the right way to do it? Is there like a lock on it or something? I tried to just unplug it but I can't fit my hand far enough in the hole from the door handle. Theirs just got to be an easier way to do it.

I cant find anything on the web on how to remove the rear panel. Please help.

    Thanks

I hate removing those damn harnesses. You can barely see back there. It makes it easier if you can roll down your window and get the angle to see in there. But if you are working on the inner door panel, you may not want the window down and in your way.

Anyway, you need to depress a tab to remove the harness. On the front doors, its easier to find. I believe the rear one is further back on the harness (like halfway back). It's hard to explain but it's not up front (where the connection takes place) - it's set further back. When feeling around, push on different spots. You'll feel that spot depress a little. With it depressed, pull out the harness.

If you have to, stick a camera in there or use a mirror to see what you are working with. It may also help to have someone help by holding the panel while you remove the harness.

Good luck. I had one of mine off last weekend to deaden the door. I'll be pulling the other one off tomorrow. If you can't figure it out, PM me and I'll snap a picture of the harness once I disconnect it.

Hey Veccster idk if your talking about the same thing. We might be idk....

Its a retarded setup!! I actually cracked the plastic a little bit but you can't tell its cracked when it goes back down. I was using a flat head screw driver, prying on it, and it still barely came up. It like pulls up the door panel itself when I pry on it. Theirs got to be something stopping it from coming out.

Is it even made to come out? Or are you supposed to just reach in there and somehow unplug it?

I know someone out there knows how to do this cuz I seen lots of rear speaker upgrades done....

You are trying to remove the entire door panel, correct?

Other than some basic pins (which pull right out), the panel is attached with 2 screws and a few wires. Remove the 2 screws first - one is behind the door handle, the other is in the handle cup (points straight down).

Once the screws are out, pull out on the panel to loosen the plastic pins that go around the outer edge of the panel. I usually start prying from the bottom. Once the pins are removed, lift up on the panel and it will come off of the door.

Then, the only thing holding it in is the wires for the window operation. These can be separated by disconnecting the harness. The front doors have 2 harnesses (power locks and power windows). The rear doors only have power windows.

Do not remove the panel that houses the switch - instead remove the harness and the panel will come out WITH the switch panel still in it.

If I'm correct, you are trying to pry up on the switch panel - which does come up with the correct amount of lovin'. I'm saying its easier to leave that intact and disconnect it from behind the panel.

Are we on the same page...?

Yes thank you!! I didn't know the door panel could be pulled off while the switch panel is still attached. I kinda tried to with it still on but I didn't want to pop the wires if there was a tight bond.

    Thanks again!

The hardest part is finding the tab on the harness to press. Once you press in on it, you pull on the harness and separate it from the switch assembly.

It simply pushes right back in when installing everything.

If you are determined to remove the switch housing, reach behind the panel and push UP on it. Prying on it could break or chip the plastic.

actually the switch is not to difficult once you understand how it's installed. To remove it you must carefully but forcefully depress the metal retaining clip on the side closest to the b pillar or furtherest from the latch. You'll need a flat screwdriver taped over to prevent damage. You insert it, depressing the retaining clip and carefully pry upwards. Now be careful the opposite is the pivot point. Once you have the b piller end up about 10-20 degrees just pull up and forward. There is enough play in the wiring harness to turn it over, find the release which is more toward the middle, depress it and connector slides off the rear.
Just did both my rear doors with dynamat... the more toublesome piece is the door trim by the window..the white frame clips in frame have a tendancy to fall inwards when re-installing the trim piece.

For the driver rear door, I had to hold the panel with my left hand and reach behind to help the metal tab up with my right hand, and opposite for the other door.

Same as some others, I couldn't get the actual switch out, I end up taking the whole panel off first, hold it, and unplug from there.

That's what I did.....just finished installing speakers in the rear door of a double cab. You take those 2 screws out first. (One is underneath the plastic cover by the lever that opens the door, the other is by the door handle us use to close the door) Then in the upper corner of the door, is a semi-long plastic panel, that pops off quite easily. You will then notice a plastic push screw. (Push the middle in, then pry) After this, you carefully pop out the bottom part of the door until all the plastic pins have "popped apart", then you can detach the door panel. Once you have the door panel detached completely from the metal door frame, you are ready to detach the window harness. What I did was....while putting my head between the door panel and frame so I could see, I pushed up on the lower part of the harness and pulled the harness out. Make sure your hands are dry while doing this.....you need a bit of finger grip. Hope this helps. Haven't done the fronts....yet.

OR, pull the door panel off with the harness attached and pop the switches out with your hand from the inside... stupid easy this way, rehang the door and unclip... You're not straining yourself this way and its very easy to see or get a tool onto.
