I just bought a 2009 4x4 tacoma used, but the dealer only gave me one key, no remote. I'm just wondering if i buy a remote online if it will actually work, or if i need to go to a dealer and have them install the optional alarm system??? please help!

I think there's a do it yourself on how to program The remote but toyota will charge you so much to program the remote

I would go back to the dealer and ask for the remote or to have them supply you with one. If not, I believe they are somewhere near 350 to purchase one and have it programmed for you.

If you get one off of ebay, there's no guarantee that they will work and Toyota sometimes will refuse to program it for you. In order to program it, they will need your VIN.

Personally I would get a keyless entry with alarm aftermarket. Hell then you could get a horn to let you know your car is locked. It will run you about 100 installed and it will come with 2 remotes. My 07 didn't come with a chirp and I never know if my truck is locked.
