What do I need to chg to make my Taco a TDR Taco

I purchased a 2010 Prerunner crew cab. Nice truck but now I want it to be a TRD Prerunner. What needs to be changed to do so. I ordered a cat-back exhaust. I'm looking into a CAI and I plan on upgrading my tires & shocks.

What else does the TRD verison have that my truck doesn't have.


PS will the OEM TRD Bilstien shocks & front springs level my truck?

Depending on witch TRD you want. Sport is what you just said you want to do. Offroad you will need a rear locker. I would say the TRD CAI if you must, however your truck already has a CAI on it. With a better filter installed you will be fine. There are a lot of good ideas here just look in the post. I would strongly suggest to using 5100's for your shocks or you can use OME lift systems. Depending on what you want. Good luk on your build!

Don't mean to be an ass but there is a good explanation of the packages on Toyota's website. Some of the electronics that come on the TRD Off Road or TRD Sport you won't be able to add to your SR5, most of the other stuff you can add if you have enough time and money. Also, there are 2 TRD packages, the Off Road and the Sport and they both have their differences.

The TRD Off Road and TRD Sport packages do not come with a cold air intake or a cat-back exhaust, they are options. I believe only the TX package comes with the cat-back from the factory (and maybe the new Baja, not sure).

The OEM Bilsteins will NOT give you any lift. You have the same coils and leaf springs as the TRD Sport already. If you want to upgrade your shocks and gain a little lift, look into Bilstein 5100's. They have an adjustable coil seat so adjust the front ride height.

 

Trade it in for a TRD. You know you want dem seats too!

Thanks all, the stickers are a great idea haha my wife would want me to go that route. I think the Sport TRD is the way I'm going. So the cat-back and maybe a better air filter (not the CAI) and 5100 shocks front & rear w/265/75/16 tires should do the trick.


I would have purchased a used TRD it I could have found one w/low miles & a price I could affort.

And no I won't be putting any stickers on my truck.

I'm not sure why you're caught up on wanting the TRD Sport when the items you listed that will "do the trick" have nothing to do with the sport lol. Good upgrades nonetheless but you're lifting and putting on an exhaust not making a TRD Sport.

 

Change out the shocks to 5100's (www.downsouthmotorsports.com) and then send a PM to SOCKMONKEY to get your bedside decals.

Call it a day after that...

 

exhuast and intake have nothing to do with making it a TRD...

for the sport you will need to color match your mirrors, handles, rear bumper, and grill. Get new seats. overhead temp and direction display. Upgrade your shocks. get a hood scoop (get the 5100's, not the yellow toyota ones).

if you want an offroad model then you will need to add a rear locker, new seats, overhead console, new shocks.


Notice how I didnt say anything about an intake or exhaust?

x2. I purchased a SR5 model, bought TRD Sport wheels, the color matched grille, color matched mirrors and looking for color matched door handles. The rest of the crap I didn't really care about (although the LSD would have been nice). In the end, I still haven't spend nearly what the upgrade to a TRD Sport would have cost me initially.

Ok I guess I did not make my thread clear. My bad. I'm not trying to make it look like a TRD truck. I want to add all the performance mods to mk it drive & handle like or better then a TRD truck. I don't care about decals or color matched mirrors or logo seat covers. All my other vehicles were performance cars and that's what I want in my truck. Sorry it I confused anyone. I'm just looking to ask guys/gals who have already did some mods which are the best ones to upgrade and what is a waste of $$.

Well, you have the same engine and suspension as the TRD models so... If you want to improve off road performance, go for a locker. You can't add ATRAC to your base model Tacoma. Also check out OME suspension setups or Icon, Fox and King if you want something much higher end.

If you want on road performance, look into getting either a TRD or URD supercharger and Eibach coils.

What is your end use for the truck and what shortcomings are you trying to improve upon? A budget would be helpful also.

A Hellwig rear sway bar is great for road handling if that's what you want.
