Slippery bed

The composite bed on my new '08 Taco is very slippery. I haul motorcycles year round in Colorado. Any suggestions (besides a bed mat) that will not void my warranty? Anybody heard of the composite bed cracking?

 

Welcome dave, I beat the snot out of my bed and it just laughs at me, check your soles of your shoes/boots, I don't have such issues ?

 

I agree, the beds are very slippery.....
I bought a bed mat for like $40. I bought it at a local truck accessories shop and it doesn't even have the company name on it anywhere. I thought it was gonna be flimsy - but it's actually 1/4" thick and really *sticky* (so to speak). I love it and works great! I've got 3-70lb sand bags in my bed and they haven't moved in 2 weeks!

 

As Ive said in anothor thread: Just go with Rhino Lining or LineX bed spray on. Looks nice and very cheap. You wont find any more scratches after using those products last truck I had worked very well.

 

Pretty sure that either.

A. The composite bed can not be rinolined

or

B. If you can find someone to do it it will not be warrantied, as it was never designed to adhear to the composite material.

 

I've heard of people lining the bed, but can't remember what they used (Rhino, Line-X, Herculiner, etc).

Just buy the damn mat and be done with it!

It grips like hell and can be removed on the occasion you WANT something to slide. Like moving a stove, refrigerator, etc. I've removed mine a few times for those really heavy items without wheels that simply will not slide on anything except a smooth surface.

Not to mention it adds a little padding if you want to haul wooden furniture or other things that might damage easily.

 

hey i'm getting rid of my taco, if you want a bed mat for a long bed, i have one here just sittin. also have all 4 bed rail cleats if somebody wants those too. PM me and let me know if you guys wants anything and if i still have it we can work something out

 

How about a sh&@ load of skate board tape?..And yes these beds do crack!..I have seen it myself along with pictures!

 

I agree, the bed is slick as snot and thats why I went with the Toyota bed divider.
Its 100% adjustable and will hold gas cans, groceries, boxes of whatever from sliding around.
You could even remove the tail gate and slide it all the way to the rear for a air gate if you wanted.
Down side? it was kind of expensive.

 

They also get worse when wet, a lot worse. I would not have bought a plastic bed liner but it is integrated to the bed and comes with the truck. I do like the tie down system

 

It is not integrated into the bed, it is the bed. Yes you will have things sliding around. Let me ask you all a question, what is the point of rhinolining the bed of you truck?? First it is the reason they make the bed out of composite material, so you don't have to line it and so it doesn't rust. It is a truck, the bed is made for loading crap etc. If you do not want things sliding around, buy a bed liner, if you are getting a bed liner to protect the bed of you truck from scratching, buy a car.

 

Don't buy a bed liner, buy a bed mat. Most bed liners are plastic so you'll still have the same problem yes? Spray on liners might work, but a rubber bed mat is cheaper and easier. Not to mention it acts as padding if you haul furniture or other things you don't want damaged.

It's also removable for the times you WANT something to slide. Like a heavy stove or refrigerator. After moving into a new house I appreciate having both a slippery and non-slip bed.

Anyone here buy a big liner from northerntool or tractor supply, etc... and trim to the exact size shape of the Tacoma bed? They're only about $40. I may try that have the tailgait edge untrimmed (use their straight edge for the exposed edge at the tailgait and trim sides/cab edges with a blade).
