THAT is exactly what you need to do. Being humble is not easy to do. I don't think anyone here is bashing on you...simply telling you like it is and if you are listening...you can learn from it.:proposetoast:

I have learned I will still talk to my dad about it though. I will have to come up with reasons though

Sorry, but that statement pretty much sums it up. I bought ALL my cars and ALL my children bought ALL their cars. Exactly for this reason. Kids who are given cars, regardless of their value, do not appreciate them like those who have earned them.

Come on, kid. You only 16 and your father buy you the ride. Did you look around how many kid can be lucky as you? I believe most of the kid will just get a crappy ride for there first car.
And when you finish up the collage and you start making money, you can buy what you want.
I know it is suck, your father make you feel bad, but you have to understand why your father do this to you. When you grew up and when you have a kid, you will know it.
So please don't be upset. you better feel lucky you get a new ride.

    Not yet,
Just show him that you are appreciative of the truck period and give him some time. I think he'll come around. Stay cool man.

I actually have a jeep now. Imagine that.
Yeah he got an almost 20k car for his first but I will vouch for him when he says it's nothing compared to kids at his school. I've seen 16 year olds driving brand spanking new 2500 turbo diesels lifted on 38s. Look at his post count. He's obviously about to burst with excitement about getting his truck. Wouldn't you be mad if you got denied sex on your wedding night after waiting patiently?

    I see it this way.

There is a definite line in the sand between generations. I started driving when the OP was still kicking dear old mom from the inside. I notice that there is the older generation (me being ad the very edge of it at 32) that has had to work for and earn what they have, albeit not as hard as our parents of course. Then the current generation that has a sense of entitlement a feeling of selflessness (IMHO) with little respect for what is given to them. Not to bash but there is the feeling of such and that is where some animosity comes from.

The Millennials are coming, a thought provoking article.

I'm pretty sure as technology and modern conveniences advance older generations will always tell the younger "I used to walk uphill both ways in the snow". That's why so many kids are fat now.

First off, to the OP this is not directed at you but a little peeve of mine.

I don't think it is a matter of technology so much as it is mentality. I see it at work quite often. We have a few guys that do not take criticism well and want to be treated like everyone else. Regardless it is the Military and they are well, the lowest ranking in the shop but they do not see it that way. Can't speak for Corporate America myself so...

Again, I'm saying it is the thought process (I have seen) that the current generation has about authority, respect and entitlement. I just do not like it when people who don't get their way proceed to throw a tantrum spouting off about how unfair it is.

In the words of Chopper Reid, Harden the Fuck up!

    It was an analogy.

If in the military I agree with you. But when meeting a man on the street, in no way am I better than him, and in no way is he better than me. That's just my motto. I'm just a fan treat people how you wanna be treated. Just how my momma raised me and momma is always right:) I'm not really sure how the transition was made to this but back on topic!

Ask him to let you mid something small first. I'll give you my toyota emblem from my grill and ask him if you painted it, could you swap it and keep the original just in case.

I agree with most of the others in that if your dad bought it, he has the right to say what goes.

Now one thing I would suggest is that when you do get the truck, show your thanks to your dad through your actions. Take RIDICULOUS care of the truck, be sure that your dad has as much access to it as you, don't ever get possessive of it, etc. In short, don't get that "entitlement" attitude. I suspect with time your dad will let you do some mods but don't rush it. Be happy, patient and genuine in your appreciation and it will eventually come. Your dad also just dropped allot of dough and he probably doesn't want to see any harm come to the truck. Modding a 10 year old Civic is one thing, a brand new Tacoma is quite another :)

Dude, be thankful for what you've got. When I turned 16, I got a beater 1986 Mazda 626 Hatchback, because it was all I could afford with the $2400 I had saved up from my paper route (My dad promptly backed into it in the driveway and buckled the quarter panel). Even if your dad has used the truck for a year, you've still got it much better than most.
