I've noticed an irritating feature of the AVH-4400BH when you use the CD-IU201V cable. One end of the cable connects into the USB and AUX ports oft he HU and the other goes into the proprietary iPhone port.

If the phone is already plugged in when you start the vehicle the iPod modewill find the phone and immediately begin playing. However, after about 10 seconds the phone switches from "docking port" to"AVH-4400" to output music. It does this because after about 10 seconds, it finds the Bluetooth phone.

It is a bit annoying to have to then go in and manually switch the phone back to "docking port".

My Question: Has anyone found a trick to keep the phone from switching outputs. I want it to always output to "docking port".

Do you plug an iphone or ipod into the HU via the special pioneer cable?

I just tried it with the the standard cable that came with Iphone and was amazed to see that it behaves identical to the proprietary CD-IU50V cable. Pioneer Tech support couldn't explain this, but I'm wondering why I bothered to buy the cable.

Anyway, they also gave me the classic Tech Support answer, "Your problem is really with Apple". I have a new 4S with the current OS installed. Maybe I'll plug in my old 3S and see if it makes a difference.

The other thing that is bugging me is that I can't play any video podcasts on the HU. I hear the audio, but the screen goes blank. Weirdness...

Did u bypass the parking brake what u should have to do is in iPod mode u should be able to go videos on the avh and it should play videos and that's the reason for that special cable it won't do video without it.

I had a great discussion with a Pioneer tech that knew his stuff. The source of my video problems was the Aux patch cable I ran from the back of the HU to the stock Toyota Aux plug. I made a custom harness for the Aux and only used 3 wires. Sound came through just fine, but you need a forth wire to get Video. There is a thread on this site that needs to be updated if I figure out how to fix this.

I realize you apparently fixed this problem but for those who buy and use the Pioneer Proprietary USB cable. Was having issues with mine not switching to App Mode (wouldn't switch automatically or via the App Mode icon on the touch screen at all) and I could only play Navigation/YouTube etc., by going to Aux mode. However, when I did this I would not get any Audio. So I researched the Pioneer site and found it buried within the site that when using their Proprietary Cable with an Iphone/Bluetooth capable Ipod and you get in your vehicle, you must wait to plug in the Proprietary cable AFTER Bluetooth has connected/becomes active. Took me awhile to figure this out. Was wondering why my phone came up with the "Switch to docking port" or "Iphone" dialogs. Doesn't do this anymore. All connects automatically now. Works fine now.

I'm not sure if I follow... Are you suggesting someone simply wait until after the HU completes the bluetooth initialization and then plug in the iphone?

Yes exactly, resolved the issues I had with utilizing the cable. I would plug it in right away or come back to the vehicle after leaving it plugged in to my phone. Started the Tacoma right away, and some of my sources would not work correctly. Pioneer recommends this and if you don't it could affect Audio playing on some of your sources (or the phone would ask which source you want to use, i.e., "Docking port" prompt), or two sources playing at the same time, i.e., Bluetooth streaming and Iphone NAV app both being utilized at the same time. Solved my problems and is working just fine now.
