I have a 2000 tacoma 4x4 trd that I just bought a couple of weeks ago. The truck came with over size tires and if turned real sharp they rub. The truck also feels every bump in the road. The truck still has the stock suspension and I was thinking of upgrading the shocks to the 5100's. Do you think that will help with the tire rub and rough ride? Thanks.......

A lift, some wheels, some tires, some performance, some cosmetic and then audio.
If your stock springs are shot I would replace those too. Shocks alone will help but I would do them all at the same time since you need a spring compressor just for the shocks. Look into some replacement coils like OME 881's or 882's if you run aftermarket HD bumpers and some 5100's set at 0 or OME Nitros. As for the rear there are many options from stock replacement to lifted and custom built. Check out Wheelers Offroad.

What size are these "over size tires", specifically?

You shouldn't need a lift to run those. I'm thinking your stock springs are shot and sagging.

It's weird my first set of wheels at 1500 miles on the odometer from Ultra with 4.25" backspacing and 265/75R16 rubbed the plastic just above the mud flaps but my current Pro Comp wheels with 4.5" bs wheels and 265/75R16 never rubbed and I had the second set after 45000 miles on the odometer.

So do you think bilstein 5100's with OME 881 springs? I don't want to put a lift on the truck but would like a better ride and hoping to stop the tire rub.

According to Wheeler's no lift would be the 880's with their 4-pack leaf by Alcans. I am in the same boat. I enjoy the stock look but spending the $ on 880 and 4-pack vs 881 and 5-pack is a mere $10 more. The spring cost the same and the leaf is $10 difference.

I had a minimum rub in front w my tires, 265 75/16 . It's Prerunner, but replaced w the Toytec Ultimate lift. Bilstein 5100 all around, and add a leaf. The front are adjusted to 2.5 ". No more rub, and possibility for 33" in future. I have had every kind of shock in past on trucks and jeeps. The 5100 is the best so far. I know you like the stock ride height, but this is a minimal difference.:notsure:

isn't this stock tire size, not oversize for a 4x4? my truck (03 4x4 trd) came with these tires on it, no rubbing till we went to bigger (oversized) tires.

kinda sounds like your suspension is real saggy, unless you've got some weird backspacing going on with the wheels...

question for you - it only rubs when you turn sharp, is it rubbing the frame, or the body/tub/plastic?

I had the same problem with my truck when I put new 265/75/16s on. The front coil springs were completely shot and the coils were touching. The rest of my suspension was done too but I only had rubbing in the front. Same tires on my brothers stock 97 4runner has no rubbing. I think the TRD progressive rate coils don't last as long as the linear springs.

    265/70/16 is the stock size

Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.
    x2 Toyota calls them "oversized". The "oversized" tire on the 98-00 was 31 x 10.5 - 15
