5100 install price

Just called a local 4WD shop to get an estimate...around $310 for the install and alignment. I've only called one in the area, just wanted to see what you guys thought of that price.

If I get the 5100's first, then get the rear TSB, Toyota should do a free alignment, right? That should cut down on the cost.

 

If the tech knows how to align a lifter truck. Is that price for all 4 shocks

 

I payed $150+tax to get all four installed. Since I already had my TSB done I couldnt get the alignment done for free by the dealership. I took my truck to a different place to get the alignment done. They charged be $85+tax for lifetime alignment, but if I get the truck lifted anymore then wont be able to honor the lifetime alignment.

For my gf's tacoma we got the 5100s installed for the same price then got the TSB done on the truck. Free alignment by the dealership!

 

$310 for install and alignment is a rip off! Rear shocks are very simple and the fronts won't take a shop long to install at all. Shouldn't be more than $200 tops since you're buying the shocks and bringing them in.

Double check the TSB to make sure it comes with an alignment. They used to because they were replacing the black SR5 shocks with stock Bilsteins but since your TRD already has Bilsteins, they have no reason to mess with the front end so they might not have to align it. I'm not familiar with the newer versions of the TSB so just check before you bank on that for a free alignment.

 

This is just for the front two shocks....wow. Sounds like I need to shop around!!!

 

I paid about 150 more for my whole 3" lift install including new UCAs and alignment. So you should be much cheaper just for 2 fronts.

 

Yes, do some looking. Stealership alignment pricing is just under $100, most smaller shops will do a front end alignment for $60 - 75. For a competent shop, a shock swap shouldn't take more than an hour unless bolts are really rusted on and take some coaxing to free up. Assuming $100 for a shop rate, your max should be $200 but you shouldn't have any trouble finding a shop to do it for $150ish.

 

Josh where are you because the damn shops around me quoted me from 400-700 to install my in hand lift and alignment!

 

$310 = $100 alignment, $210 labor more or less. Its probably a 2hr job start to finish with the proper equipment and you know what your doing. Remove tires, remove shocks, disassemble original front struts to remove coils, then install coils to the new 5100's, then install all shocks. Replace and torque tires, then do the alignment. So maybe a little high, but if you could get a lifetime alignment (avg $150 or so in value) it may be worth it. Also, if its a good shop, sometimes paying for it once to get what you want and done right is also worth something...

 

I'm guessing you have a friend at the shop or someone owed you a favor. If not, you got one hell of a smoking deal and should put the shop's name up so others can get the same deal. $150 for a lift install including alignment is crazy low and the shop would definitely lose money on that deal.

Place I went to was J&B Motorsports near Pottstown. Its probably about 40 min NW of Philly give or take. Good guys there. IIRC it was about 450. Perhaps could find cheaper but I thought it was a fair price and I heard good things about them on a couple other forums. If that's within reasonable travel time for you I'd shoot Brian there an email or phone call.

Yep....just that I'm not too comfortable doing it by myself....would just rather pay a reputable shop with lifetime alignment to know it's done right, especially while my truck has only 11k on it.

 

doesn't mean they know how to properly align it.

 

i want either, trust me haha. i was 17 when i put my whole UCA, Shocks, Bumper and wired all my HIDs up just because everything had a write up on here! but that life time alignment does sound nice.. i wish we had a firestone around in my town

 

Also, some guys have had their 5100's installed prior to the TSB since an alignment is necessary with the Rear Leaf TSB. You may want to clear it with the shop mgr. If the dealer does it, it should be cheaper, they have to remove the rear shocks for sure, but not the fronts. So you would have to pay for the coil swap and the uninstall and reinstall of the front struts. But still get the alignment for free

I'm in Richmond also. Where did you get that quote from? I took my truck to Truck Outfitters and had them install front shocks with eibach springs and rear shocks. They charged me almost $400 for it. Stay away from them.

 

its pretty great1 i get a alignment after every tacomaworld trip...

 

What about installing them yourself? When i did mine i just had a shop put my 5100's and eibachs together and i installed them. He charged me 35 bucks!
