Wiping down truck everyday? Pros/cons

    I just bought a new White Tacoma and I can't stand to see any dirt on it. I am wiping it down after work every day to get all of the bugs and road grime off. I have a two coats of wax on her but it just makes me nervous to wipe around so much dirt every day. is there a product I could use that may eliminate any minor scratches or should I just wait and wash it once a week? It's usually a 20 minute wipe down. I've been using a microfiber towel and Meg's Detail spray. Any opinions?

    just make sure the microfiber is clean and always use the detail spray so you're not dry rubbing the dirt into the paint

    I would highly recommend buying the California duster. I've had mine for several years and it works great. I use this to dust my truck off EVERY TIME I'm about to wipe it down. Hope this helps man.

    Sorry for the lenght of the post! I know this is a stupid question but I've never owned a new truck, especially one I love like my all white Taco! What do most of you guys/girls do in terms of how often you keep it clean, wax, polish, clay, wipe road crap off between washes ie. brake dust, bugs? I would like to pick your brains on the chronolgical order because you guys love you truck too and from the pics here they look great. I just dont want to damage my paint by overdueing it. I also plan to debadge my truck tomorrow! Love the look and is easier to clean. I'll post pics before and after.

    If not the California Car Duster, then go all the way and use quick detail spray and a clean microfiber towel.

    You're over-doing it. Every time you wipe, you're putting in minor scratches. Your saving grace is that your truck is white, which shows the minor scratches the least. IMO, polishing, and waxing it twice a year is plenty. Just have to accept the fact that it's a daily driver, and it's going to get bugs/dirt/grime on it.

    Next time I wax it should I clay and polish it too? I know you shouldn't have to polish it every time I wax but it may take care of the few minor scratches I may have already done. Then I can just keep washing claying and waxing like a "normal person" until I may need another polish down the road. I guess I got all excited about my new favorite toy. I'm not OCD or anything but I'm a 28 year old union plumber who worked my ass off to get it so I guess I got carried away. I'm debadging it this weekend so I figure It would be best to polish then and rewax and start a normal maintainance on her

    Wash, clay, seal, and wax once every 4-6 months.
    Wash with MILD detergent weekly, or when needed.

    You guys who said Cal Car Duster-I bought one and I find it puts micro scratches AND smears of whatever that gummy wax is on it all over my black paint. It does "dust" the surface but at what cost? IMO black shows real good what this thing does to the surface and it aint too good:(.
    OP keep a good seal on the paint and enjoy dusting her down-it's good excercise too!

    I just wash the damn thing when it gets dirty. Usually about once a week, sometimes more. I'm going to clay it and wax it soon but I just can't see wiping a truck dow to get stuff off it w/o washing it so you don't scratch it first. I love my truck too but I just wash it. If it lived life in a trailer going from show to show then I would use a detailing spray and sparkle her up but it's a DD. As hard as it is to accept.....she's gonna get dirty.

    pro's: It shines.
    Con's: It shines with scratches in it.

    Let it get dirty. People will leave it alone. Or, after you wax it, put a thin coat of something disgusting on it, so people don't touch it.

    I was coming out of Starbucks today and some moron was leaning on my car, checking out his hair. He had his greasy, sweaty, moron hand on my newly waxed truck. We had a little chat about that, the moron and I, and it was not pleasant.

    Well I'm glad I asked. Like I said I knew I was overdoing it. I'm just glad I realized it within the first week other than after a year and my car shined like tinsel from paint scratches. I appreciate you guys slapping me back to reality. What wash works best!

    I understand that new truck feeling. When I was 17 and got my first car I washed it every week. When I got the Tacoma I got it knowing I was going to use it like a truck should be used, and I wash it when I get the chance, which in a span of 16 weeks is only 3 times.

    I feel you buddy... I hate having a thin coat of dirt on my truck... It's different if it's a thicker coat of off-road mud which I'll proudly drive around with for a little while. lol :rolleyes:

    I fear wiping down the truck scratches the paint too much, so I try not to do it too often.

    best stuff you will ever use

    once it is applied
    you can wipe down your rig with a wet cloth
    and then buff it dry and shiny again

    I have been a distributor since 1996
    and never had a dissatisfied customer

    I'll defiantly wait till it needs to be washed. It has a coat of tech wax on there so she'll be safe till the next coat is needed. I'm debadging her tonight and in a week I'm painting the grill emblem flat black to match the grill. It's pretty much gonna look like yours DJSPEC! It's such a clean look and pretty easy to do. Except I've got the access can without the scoop. Gonna try and make this baby my own. Figure I'm gonna have it till the wheels fall off
