Got a question for the Trestle experts since I'm going up soon for the first time.
I figure my bike will be okay for the trails there, it's a full suspension Iron Horse...not a downhill bike but I think it will do. I'm worried about my brothers that I'm dragging with me, they have front suspension only bikes....They're good bikes (trek I think) but not full suspension. Do you guys think they'll be okay? I don't really want to tell them that they should rent bikes, since it's pretty expensive.
I do plan on renting all the protective gear though, and I'll tell my brothers to as well.
We'll be riding the greens at first and might get more into the blue runs as the day progresses. Let me know what you think or if you have any tips. Thanks!

My boxes were in the mailbox all day. Thought they would be delivered to my front door

I got an auxiliary mic and a 24mm f2.8 lens for my camera.

Depends on how hard they ride. Even a full suspension bike that is not set up for down hill is not that great for that use. You can have fun on any bike within reason. I sold all my down hill bikes and my full suspension xc bikes and rock the 29er now.

to many to list, check the build thread
Yeah I'd say you don't need a full suspension, just take it slow on the more cross country green trails first. Most of all it's about rider ability, the riders in crankworx are riding 4 inch travel bikes, some hard tails if I remember right. They are dirt jumper bikes and they do a 30 foot step down jump. I had a iron horse SGS pro about 3 years ago, it was one of the bikes I learned on at trestles. It's a fun sport, you're gonna get hooked :D

I see people every weekend on 29er hard tails, it's a great cross country and downhill mix

Wow, everyone was waiting on deliveries today. I got my BAMF diff skid and LCA skids today!
You have to drill out a hole from about 1/4" to 1/2" on the LCAs and Jerry recommended a step bit from HF. I got it then I tried to get under there and do it, but I ran two cordless drill batteries down trying to get it done, and went almost nowhere :( I guess I will try to borrow a corded drill and just keep at it. Maybe some sort of lubrication on the bit too...

Anyway, getting them powder coated black and will be installing in a few days. Anybody else have these particular skids? Any other tricks or things to watch out for? The diff skid brackets looked like they barely fit under the hoses running along the rear axle. What are those btw?

Slow speed and oil is key when drilling hard metals. Go very slow. It will annoy you alot but you will see the metal flaking off at slow speeds where you probably dont see much of anything at higher speeds.

Solid, thank you. I did put the drill up to high speed and didn't oil it. Hopefully I didn't eff up the bit.

You might have dulled the blade. Oil keeps it cool.
Just so you know what I mean by slow, It took one of our contractors 4+ hours straight to drill a 2" hole in 3/4" thick stainless steel plate.

If you don't have cutting oil, just use some motor oil.

John you should hook me up with your factory front skid plate. Not sure where mine is but I'm sans a skid plate.

x2 on using a slow drill speed. It might seem like it will take longer.....but in reality you'll get through that steel in no time compared to using a fast drill speed haha

Are you using a standard drill or a compact?

But you are just widening an existing hole or starting a new one? If widening it should not have run down two batteries. Is the bit new or used? Quite possibly it was dull to start with. Or are you using a 12volt drill?

Yes widening. 18v cordless, not compact. New step bits. Did not look sharp, but will try with oil and low speeds today. I'll keep y'all posted.
