Same spot just looking another direction. I was just messing with my camera...set up a flashlight in my tent and started clicking away. I was inspired by this...

If you can manually control your camera, set the aperture to either f2 or f4, the shutter to "bulb" then hold the shutter open for about a minute. If you have a shutter release, this will make the process easier. At most, 5 minutes (depending on how bright the nite sky is).

For a moment, I thought it was my friend Tom Murphy-but I looked, it's not :)
    Awesome inspirational photo!

Yeah, I can. I just don't have a lot of experience with night or low light shots. I was just messing around trying to find a happy medium to get both the bright light of the fire and the dim light from the tent to show up.
Tom is a local guy, does a lot of work in yellowstone. I know he did a long exposure and he and the others in camp were actually crouching behind the tents with lights for that shot.

The small LED headlights do a lot to light up a tent. It's amazing. A little more time will get you the stars. I should have looked at the exif data-I see you have a 7D :)

I liked what I saw of Tom's work. Amazing part of the country to live and work in!

I'm sure I'll have a few more nights this summer to perfect that type of shot.

On another note: my camping trip was fairly uneventful. No campsite invasions or defilement of my truck this time! I got to stay at Jenny Lake one night (where I took the pics) and at another camp. The other camp was partially closed because there is a nesting pair of owls in one of the trees. So all night long I had to listen to WHOOOOOOO....WHOOOOOOOO...
My hike yesterday took longer than expected (due to allergies and heat) and I'm sore today!

More picy goodness from the weekend...
Went exploring on Saturday and found the Granite Creek/Gros Ventre (said like "grow vaunt") Wilderness area. The mountains were so amazing! I'll be visiting again for sure.

And then my hike on Sunday...SOOOO hot out! But still worth the trip
    jennylaketrail_b3ffd1ee95c172e36be81db54f6b8bdf160a5b22.jpg
And waking up on Jenny Lake...:D Little less snow then last year
    jennylake-1_effdfad0aed7af35b1e27a001f41ccbd806a2b06.jpg

And I ran into momma griz and her triplets on Monday morning. Thankfully I was in the truck and not on foot! I don't recall ever seeing a grizzly cub before so when I realized that there were triplets I was ecstatic! Definitely the highlight of the trip. Not the best pic but its the only one that you can sort of see all 3 cubs and mom. And I was trying to take the pics while leaning over my center console and out the passenger window...I knew better than to get out of the truck.

I just got back from a 20 states in 30 days trip across the US. From the Southwest to the East Coast. This country of ours is so beautiful and there are so many interesting sights to take in. And to add to it my Girlfriend and I did it in a 79' VW Camper with my two Dogs, That is why I purchased my New Taco so I can continue the adventure with some added creature comforts and be able to go deep into that adventure with a Travel Trailer.
So go East,West or where ever your heart desires and enjoy the many wonders

Nice pics Lisa!!! Looks like a great time!

I just inherited one of these big ass camp kitchens from my aunt. It has been passed around the family and with me being the only one that camps anymore, I got a hold of it. Should be nice to have.

Jeanne and I are prepping gear for the first rip of the season; short, 3-day trip into Desolation Wilderness just west of Tahoe.

I tried out the new Gregory Baltoro on a long, high dayhike 2 weekends ago, feels really good. Next weekend will be the first real load and overnight. I've been doing stairs like a mofo to train.

Been dehydrating meals like crazy for the last couple days. Once I get all the gear sorted out i'll have to post up my collection. I am still debating if I should pick up a water filtration system. Typically just use a coffee filter and the drops. I was debating getting something like the msr miniworks, or maybe a ketadyne basecamp type filter... very different I know. Thoughts?

Also anyone have any good lunch ideas. I get tired of pepperoni, jerky and rye bread after a couple days!

 Good deal, I add at least one or two pics from each trip so you should have lots more to choose from in the coming weeks.
Thanks. I'm still adjusting to the Canon (its new) but it hasn't really disappointed me yet!
That's a good sort of hand me down! I saw some people were using a snap-on tool box for their kitchen wares  I guess it works though and would be bear proof. Just incredibly bulky!
I wants to go too! :pout:
Do you even have bears down there?

you'd probably find them in the natural foods or specialty section of the grocery stores.
Yep, :goingcrazy: about sums it up. I was trying to stop the truck, grab the camera, remove the lens cap, and roll down the window (crank windows mind you) on the passenger side all at the same time.
