Dang. You guys are the best. Thanks!
So there's recalls that haven't been fixed and if I want the truck I need to take it to Toyota and have them look at the engine and then get them down to 12,000 dollars.
Would the dealership fix the recalls for free?

No. Not even. You would be surprised at what Carfax misses.

For example, what if the original owner payed cash to fix a problem the truck was having? No paper trail.

    Get it inspected.

Would Toyota inspect it for me? The seller said he would feel more comfortable if I took it to get inspected before I bought it. But noy main concern is al the recalls and the thought of trying for 11,000 post tax, lic., fee

Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.
Those recalls would be for the air bags, parking brake, gas pedal, and labels.

was there a 12v outlet in the bed? and a DIFF LOCK button near the fog lights on the left below the steering wheel? if so, its TRD off road and has the locker, from the pics, its got all the correct cosmetics, sticker, correct rims, chrome grille and rear bumper etc. if theres a power inverter outlet in the right cubby hole near the tailgate then its TRD and will have the locker, good luck!

Okay thanks. I'll check. You guys are the best.
I can't believe I'm more stoked to get a 2wd than 4wd but the pre runners look awesome and have the rear diff lock in some models.

Recalls are free (and optional) to fix.

Yup, a locker makes a huuuge difference in low traction situations.

    Locked 4x4 > 4x4 w/ no locker > locked PreRunner > PreRunner w/ no locker

(Coming from a guy with a 4x4 PreRunner! lol ;))

Also, I agree with OZ... your post was no where near as ignorant/incoherant/derpy as whipper's usual spewings.

What he said^ The recalls you have are the airbag which was a wire loom harness at the steering wheel if not mistaken, unintended acceleration scam against toyota which was fixed by installing shims in the pedal, labels on the visors I believe, and something else. Recalls or service bulletin are usually covered by the manufacturer at no cost.

You can take it to a dealer and have them do a prebuy inspection, depending on how in depth you want them to go either an hour or two hours of labor. Depending on what the dealer charges for labor it could run 90-120 per hour. But they will go through and check everything for you and give you a list of what needs to be done.

With only one service on record and 161k on the clicker I would be inclined to do a full service on it. Plugs, coolant flush, tranny flsuh w/ filter (if auto), diff fluid, belt, fuel filter assembly, brake flush, check the DOT on the tires see if they are passed there prime (last 4 digits are month and year they were made) tires last about 4 years. So you might want to get a P and A on doing those and drive the price down to accomodate.

    Okay thanks'

The dealer wants at least 13k.
I think I'll pass this one up and try and get an automatic that has less
Miles maybe. Just seems like a big hassle all this. Ahgggg used is the way to go but you have to be willing to do alot more work than you normally would
