You tried that 200 years ago and got thoroughly trashed and as part of the 200th anniversary celebrations I thought we should sack and burn Washington again(probably get help from a lot of Americans).

I recently retired would you like to try to figure out just how much money I payed into SS over 52 years? I'm 66 how long do you think I have to get even .1% out of what I put in? SS was not meant to be part of any thing other then it's self but it became a treasure trove of money for wars etc. The banks and investment co. are what got us into this mess do you think it's a good ideal to trust them with your money for your retirement? The non producers are retired people, children, students, disabled veterans and the ones that can not afford health care and end up in our hospitals and a far smaller percentage are those that just don't like to work. they are the ones that slew the numbers because those that would rather help their rich buddies (iinvestors and the likes) like to count them as "non payers" because they are not employed. Trickle down economy does not work never has never will over my working career I have payed in hundreds of thousands of dollars in taxes this I did not mind because I like to drive on nice roads etc. but what does piss me off is the ones that could buy and sell me a million times over get more in tax breaks then I ever made and guess what they do not put it back into their business and if you believe they do you need to go back to business school corporate wealth and personal wealth are not the same.

If I have to pay more taxes I can't afford guns. We all know that is not an option. What we need is massive tax cuts and even more massive spending cuts. We need the ability to "opt out" of social security too.

OK, not sure if you're upset and/or jealous here, and I'm sure you've worked hard over your life. I am also retired (recently from the USAF after 21 yrs of service) and 100% disabled vet. I still work everyday and have paid taxes for years, and in my discussion above was not including students, retirees, or disabled vets. I'm simply including those persons--they know who they are--who are the takers, and they have ALWAYS taken. You know the type... have been collecting welfare and SSDI forever and have no problem doing so for as long as possible.

But, let me also add this: I have never blamed anyone for my lot in life. I actually have done very well but it took discipline, working an extra job or two while on active-duty, and saving every penny--I'm damn proud of that effort. Now, at 41, my family and I can enjoy those rewards. I don't have to work but I will until someone tells me I can't--my wife also works, and damn hard. Incidentally, I don't have a business degree--I have degrees in CJ, psychology, and education--but what I do have are years of paying attention to the right people, and watching my earnings closely. I have made wise choices--not all the time--but most of the time. Am I rich... no. Better off than most... I'd say. I'll continue to work hard, pay my taxes, contribute to society... and I'm also going to enjoy life to the fullest.

You seem bitter about the rich getting richer (I'm guessing by your tone)--and I agree that we have disturbingly greedy financial and political institutions--I'd say channel those energies into creating wealth for you and your family and stop worrying about the other guy. Personally, when I see someone who is wealthy, my automatic reaction is not to scorn them. If they made it, let them have it. Who am I to say they can't have it? And who are any of us to say they have earned enough? There's nothing wrong with wealth as long as it's earned through hard work, discipline, and sacrifice. Note: Not sure where the whole discussion of corporate or personal wealth came from...

I think you are under the misguided belief that all wealth is only acquired through some sort of fraudulent means. In some cases, yes I'm sure it is, but fraud exists up and down the economic ladder and is not reserved for just the rich. Life's a series of choices. You make some right ones, you make some wrong ones. In the end, you hope you made far more right ones than wrong ones. It doesn't work out that way for everyone because they get off to a late start and it's real hard to catch up. But that's life... no one said it would be fair. And incidentally, my family has seen it's own share of 'unfairness" over the years and we overcame.

I don't feel that Americans should pay more taxes. Average citizens that don't receive hand outs from the government are taxed multiple times. I pay payroll tax for 4 different things, property tax, sales tax on anything, just off the top of my head.

I think the problem with tax is that not everyone has to pay the same as everyone else. I also feel that government hand outs are out of control.

I would put Americas financial issues as
    1. Military spending is out of control.
    2. Handouts are out of control.
    3. Nothing will change.

I'm still bitter that the bitch on the side of me in college said she didn't have to pay a single dime for college, while I'm still $30,000 in debt.

Are you freaking kidding? Between income taxes, sales taxes, property taxes, sin taxes, and so on (many at the local, state, and federal levels), we're already being taxed to the extreme.

I'm all for a flat tax, but at roughly 5% instead of the 19-20% or more advocated by some candidates in this election.

With the 19-20% suggested by those candidates, my federal taxes would actually increase while local and state taxes would remain the same - or increase if the fed uses any tax change as an excuse to shuck off stuff to the local or state levels (as they so often do).

They control at least 75% of the wealth in this country, so are justly taxed at that level.

The biggest problem I have is that the bottom half doesn't pay any taxes at all, yet they are the ones receiving the handouts. Everyone should have some skin in the game which is why i'm all for a flat tax, no deductions at around 8-10%.

As for the OP, no we don't need to pay more taxes, we need to control spending.

In case you have looked at the tax calculation charts recently, even those who earn only a few hundred dollars a year must still pay taxes on that. Some aid benefits are excluded, but certainly not all.

I don't doubt it. Like most wealthy people around the world, they've moved their money to tax shelters overseas. Of course, that hasn't stopped most of them from still reaping the benefits of capitalism here.

I also have to assume that this thread is a joke. Taking money from anyone by force is a crime, regardless of how you justify it. Income tax and property tax is organized criminal activity. Only sales tax is legit.

With taxes, the question is, Who knows how to spend MY money better- the government, or me? I'll take low taxes any day. The only things that the government should spend money on are protection and roads A free market system can take care of everything else, more efficiently.

Because we haven't tried hard enough to lock it

I heard a rumor that Obama like to street race Jesus in their Raptors with bull bars while drinking 40s and pouring some out for their fallen homies. After each race the winner demands that they get mad rep.
