Monte this ^^^ is the best of advice. Most people think they need to spend a lot on a radio only to later find the antenna and gound plane play a much greater role in getting good broadcast and reception range.

I think my Uniden only cost me $50.

This has been my experience as well.

 

Yea i was looking at getting the Cobra 18WXSTII now..but do you just have the Uniden 520 XL pro? was looking at that little guy too.

At the top of the fender, the tires stick out 2". So it's about the same as yours since I've got 3" flares with 2" still sticking out. I like the flares since it protects the body quite a bit more.

 

It's only about as tall as stock full sized trucks with more clearance underneath! It's funa as hell! For sure I'll give ya a ride if you're ever in McCallywood!

 

Anybody got any suggestions for how i keep the paint/primer from sticking to the saw horses? I let the primer dry over night. Turned the slider over painted the other side. Let it dry. Went to flip it over again and the dry primer peeled off on the saw horses...

 

Midsize trucks are kind of weird. Haha. My dad has a bone stock gmc sierra 1500 and my mirrors will actually pass over top of his without hitting them and i have way more ground clearance, but our roofs are about the same height.

 

well i didn't prime mine..so i just painted my up as best i could while on saw horses. Then welded them on. then just painted up the spots while on the truck.

 

Do you have a different mic too?

Yeah, that's true... Our body style is more squished from top tp bottom; whereas, a mid-sized truck has way less ground clearance and sit the same height. Also, I think their windows are bigger, which would make the mirror sit lower. I'm sure that makes for easy "close to eachother" parking!

Don't use saw horses.... instead, tie it up using fishing line (or whatever is gonna hold it up), and that way you can paint 360 degrees around it at once! No more paint one side, let it dry, flip it over and paint, let it dry, over and over and over!

 

I'm just using the one that came with the radio.
