I like my 5100's with 885 springs. Not as nice as some of the more expensive set-ups, but for a budget build they ride really nice.

Yeah I have been looking at that ad on cl for a while now, I wish I could get it, but I don't have the cheddar for it either. My luck I'd that I would get it and need more stuff to make it work and would be staring at it in the garage making me crazy.

Well, I bought my truck with 5100s. Then added eibachs later. I don't think it would be a bad start. Just depends what your end goal is. I like my set up but want a little more clearance.

Right now my only goal is to lift up the front end to closer match the rear end. I don't have any desire to do any crazy rock crawling or even serious trail riding so I don't need anything high end or expensive. I don't plan to do anything crazy so anything more than basic would just be overkill. It seems that maybe a set of front 5100's might be the answer. I guess I could maybe even do OME fronts too since they appear to be less expensive. Not sure that's the best option for stock springs though.

Based on what your plans are right now 5100's would be your most cost effective solution to get a bit of lift and a better quality shock. If you wanted to go really inexpensive just to level the front get some leveling spacers for your stock coils. Less then $100. You can always upgrade later as you grow in this addiction. :D

If you feel your off roading desires will grow over the next year then going OME now would be a better spend. HD would be for if you want a heavy bumper and winch up front. Otherwise go with the regular spring. These are just my opinions though. :)

Ostrichsak- from the other tread you asked if I was sure about 2.5 on the 5100's. For ride on the OEM springs not ideal but the UCA should still clear. But I thought I read that you just have the TSB in the rear correct? 2.5 in the front would be too high based on what I have seen from others who did this. You would need an AAL in the rear as well if you wanted 2.5 and new shocks too. IMO 1.75 would be the right height for the TSB only.

Just wanted pop in this thread, and say hope everyone is safe, and no property loss with the fires. Was listening to Colorado springs fire radios last night, and it was depressing at how many houses where burning.

Anyway, be safe firefighters, and residents.

I don't think I want to run spacers. I'm curious how a 5100 would compare to a OME setup for city/highway use since that's probably what my truck will see 99% of the time. I also wonder about long-term use which will last longer. I think all this just tells me I need to keep researching before I decide which route I'm going to go since I still have so many questions.

Well, I took measurements which I posted (somewhere) and my truck after the TSB is 22.5" from the center of the wheel to the wheel well and the front is 19.75" for a total difference of 2.75" between the front and the rear. I realize it may be difficult to get to exactly 2.75" up front w/o spending lots of money but I think 2.5" would be pretty darn close and look much better than it currently does. The TSB was done just a few months ago so there's a chance it may settle a little more yet too although I'm not planning on too much more if any at this point.

OME is setup to run springs and struts that are matched almost perfectly.

5100s are setup to let the user install any spring they want, regardless of function or use.

I will say this, I run my 5100s (set to zero) with OME 884 springs, I drive it daily and wheel the shit out of it. Either way you choose, you should get an aftermarket spring to go on the new struts, if you are concerned with ride quality.

This would be a good option for you: Just reduce the pre-load on the coilovers, which will make it ride better, and you are set for a long time.

I disagree. I only have the TSB on the rear and set my 5100's to 2.5 and mine sits perfectly level. Have had no problems with the springs or UCA. It rides just fine. However, that is only my experience. Each truck might be a little different.
