That hasn't been true for many years. Most of the corporations have moved most or all of their manufacturing & business operations, right along with the jobs, overseas. At the same time, their profits have increased dramatically (with much of that sheltered in overseas tax havens). Darn little of that money (beyond taxes) is going back into this economy.

If we really want to fix the economy, we should throw out any corporation not substantially based in the United States, reducing the competition so others with more dedication to this country can replace them. At the same time, we should bring immigration to a complete stop (or even roll it back), reducing the competition for American workers. As it is (ever fewer jobs & high immigration), this economy (in trouble for many years) will never recover.

Yes... this thread was started by an individual suffering from a mental disorder known as "Canadianism". It tends to warrant spontaneous ranting from hard working Americans.

Not sure how you enforce the first idea you have there, and the second idea would cost millions more (of your dollars) to enforce.

I didn't insult anyone, I said the thread was derp, and people were intentionally using some words as insults, which is something children do. I apologize if I insulted you, because that was not my intent.

I never quoted you, called you childish or even commented in the thread before that post, so I'm not sure what you are talking about...

The concept I stated is true, but we need to have taxes in place that make it more expensive to bring goods into the US from outside our borders, not the other way around.

Oh brilliant one... please tell me why it is cheaper for Toyota and Mercedes to manufacture their cars in the US - Compared to GM?

Back-pedaling are we? I use the terms to describe the distorted mentality that exists among many foreign countries when they criticize our economy. A Canadian says all Americans should pay more to their government - WHY would anyone who doesn't have a socialist viewpoint make a broad brushed statement like this? Most Canadians are of the belief that more government assistance + more taxes is a good idea - ie. their national healthcare system.

Man, you really need to read over the messages again. I've said absolutely nothing about the "liberal elite" or "Hollywood trash." I initially responded to a message about the top 5% of this country, which neither you nor they are part of. Another brought up the lower 20%, again which neither you (I assume) nor they are part of. Finally, we moved into large corporations, jobs overseas, immigration, and so on. At no point was I "disrespectful" to you, so please drop that nonsense.

Well, since I didn't insult anyone in my post, and I didn't intentionally improperly use words as insults (saying that someone is acting like a child is not the same as calling them a child), I am failing to see the hypocrisy you are trying to point out. Also, if you feel I did do those things, then your first reply would in fact be hypocritical.

How am I back-pedaling? You said I did something that I didn't do... I never called any of your posts childish, I never said I had business experience, and I never said anything about what you have done for the country, so again, I am not really sure what you were talking about in your first reply.

No Canadians should PAY taxes to America, because they have the privilege of living next to this great country.

Getting products overseas cheaper than we can produce them is not a bad thing. Why tax stuff and make it more expensive? Thats exactly what would take place - and its circumventing our free enterprise system. Higher prices, and a distorted market will be the result.

Now what we need to do while we buy stuff from others, is take the effort we didn't expend on say TV's from Japan, and get to work on something we can be competitive in, maybe medicine or technology.

We can't sit back and let everyone make our stuff - but it doesn't make sense to ignore lower prices. Either way we pay for it, whether we spend our rescources/time on it or buy it outright.

I'm not going to fabricate 4 wheels for my truck out of some casting, measure everything, test it, etc - because it doesnt make sense. Sure I could do it. But it would take me WAY longer, and cost me way more than buying some from a vendor on here. Meanwhile, since I'm not stuck in my garage trying to make wheels, I'm at work, getting paid and thus a more efficient use of my time.
