Demand is what will require more employees. A tax break for the rich will increase the bank accounts of the rich only.I won't hire people to do nothing. When I have more work and orders to justify more emplyees, then I will start hiring more workers.

I understand. However, guess what the number goes up to if we just stop helping the ones in need. The burden goes off the charts. Some of the ones getting help, actually need it, not just being lazy and abusing the system. The few who do abuse things get all the press.
In a prefect world everyone would be able to earn and live without needing anybody else. But shit happens.
Having said this, I never was never unemployed and paid taxes for the last 30 years or so. I worked hard and did not come from money. I did not even graduate from college. It takes hard work AND a lot of luck to get by. Some people don't have any luck and still do work hard.

Americans should pay more taxes in general - I couldn't disagree with this statement more. It's simple OZ. You made an incredible generalization that needed debate, from an American taxpayer standpoint. Many others have clouded the original over generalization, but for the sake of my argument I will not. For the reasons I have stated in this post, we Americans' pay our fair share in taxes and should not pay more. When the argument turns to a debt solution - your statement becomes clouded. There are many theories on this problem and not all require an increase in tax revenue. Based on your posts it appears you believe your original statement that American's should pay more taxes - to deny this would be back pedaling, as others have done on this thread when confronted with their words.

I do think tax increases are going to need to be one part of the solution , yes .

I don't know the answer to this BIG problem. I do think Austerity will crush whats left of the anemic economy tho. Where has it worked to fix an economy?
We are here because of greed. Yes people bought what they could not afford but people gave loans to them out of greed for more money. Who is supposed to be smarter?
25% of my income is a much bigger burden for me, than 25% of Rupert Murdoch's is for him. I say FUCK the rich, let them take a beatdown for a change instead of 95% of the country.

no he's not kidding, look around the forum, there are multiple "should pay more taxes" threads, I'm sure this was not a general statement that he strongly believes is the key to rebuilding a country, much more elaboration than OZ provided would be necessary. remember, it's simply someone's opinion.

the problem you are having Gary is that you see your point of view as correct, and have completely closed your mind to other ideas and suggestions. The fact is if you were completely correct, and could fix all your countries debt with your simple solution, it would have been done.
you're not the first guy to have your point of view, and the people who are running your country are most likely more knowledgeable than you in regards to taxation and how it effects your country.

I'm not claiming to know much on this subject, in fact I don't know much on it. I can however see that from your responses to this thread, that you are going to stick to your guns, right or wrong. I hope my statement doesn't offend you, that is the furthest thing from my intention.

Austerity measures don't fix economies , they keep nations from going bankrupt

Added extra awesomeness to its original awesomeness.
If we raise taxes we will never be able to afford anything other than slotted screws, then what Canada?

And this is based on your knowledge of our tax revenue and our Government's accountability of our tax revenue in the US. Interesting how you could possibly know this. Maybe you can enlighten me? Demonstrate your reasoning. I'm all ears... as many of us think raising taxes would cripple our recessed economy.

Have you heard about Ireland lately( just one example that comes to mind)? How long before they go under? I am not sure it keeps nations from bankruptcy either.

Tax revenue accountability is foremost in the argument of raising taxes. A blanket overgeneralization that American's should pay more without the tax accountability is futile. The statement is just plain wrong with no factual basis. Our debt solution is a whole different discussion than the American's should pay more taxes - I'm trying not to confuse the two - And I really like Canada - been to Vancover a few times, a lovely area full of friendly people. I'm just not fond of your politics ;)

Cut the BS from the budget first, then we can talk about tax hikes. They've proven they can't handle the money we are giving them, why should i give them more.

Accountabilty for our tax dollars is the issue. As for me I'm 100% for budget cuts... Gota have a budget to cut, though.
