08 Arrived now I have a few issues

That was yesterday. After comparing to the 99 Limited TRD it is to replace I have some issues.

#1 Toyota goes to the trouble to run a wire to the outside fuel door to tell you it was left open. Couldn't this have been added to the in cabin fuel door release cable they forgot to add. The 99 had a locking door that you had to use the key on the outside but at $50 a fill-up you felt better leaving it on the drive at night.

#2 The 99 had a extra lever on the seat back for lumbar support settings. On this one the lower turn knob for adjusting the seat cushion takes the place of both?

#3 I replaced the skinny Toyota issue Bilstein shocks on the '99 over 2 years ago as one of the rear started leaking. The replacement ones from Performance Products were almost twice the diameter and the ride was greatly improved. The 08 has the same small "fleet type" ones and the part that actually attaches to the swing arm seems to be machined to about 1" to clear the front drive axles. I haven't got under the truck yet to measure for sure but I don't remember the ones on the 99 looking like this.

#4 I ordered the trailer tow package. The options page says (7-pin connector W/converter.) I recieved the harness for the trailer brake controller if you needed to use one but was told that the 7pin to 4 pin converter was in fact an adapter and was extra. They did not have one in stock at the time though. For $650 you would think both these would be included.

#5 No XM radio or I pod, or home link options?

#6 Is there any other cars or trucks being sold without hood struts?

OK I'm done BITCHING. Overall the 08 is one outstanding truck as far as performance and comfort. Just feel after 4 years with this gen. of truck Toyota could have done some tweaking. Anybody out there had to change the front shocks out on a 2nd gen. tacoma have some imput for me? Later

 

I wouldn't be too concerned about the locking gas door. The fill pipe on the generation 2 Tacomas is designed so that it is impossible to get a tube into the tank to syphon any fuel. Trust me, I tried for a half hour before giving up when I needed gas for my snowblower last month.

 

Well...Toyota could have def done some things better on a new truck...
My rants:
- Having a truck these days without heated mirrors (what the hell)

- No distance to empty or MPG just trip...(nice/real nice)

- The TRD seats are tight

- The rear view mirror is to low I cant see anything to the middle without ducking down (me 6'1)

- No NAV option (did a DNX 7100 myself)

- Should have a power rear window option

well...these are my rants!

 

I just came out of a 07 Tundra (too big, bad gas MPG, should have got Taco in the first place) to a 07 Tacoma and your telling me about the things they left off the 4.0 Tacos...LOL. The Tundra has about everything, you would think for $27,800 they could have brought some of the cool/nice features over to the Tacoma. I don't know what Toyota is thinking sometimes. I know your pain!

They say a Camel is an animal formed by a committee. If that is the case, then imagine what we would have if they took all of our ideas and put them into a truck. What a strange beast it would be! LOL

 

My sole gripe thus far is no auto-dimming mirror. Had no idea how much I'd gotten used to that in the wife's Dodge Ram. I also confess I miss power locks and side mirrors, but then that's that many less electronic gizmos to break down later. This truck better be prepared to stick around for the long haul. I expect 10+ years out of my vehicles.

 

These are available options on the Tacomas. I'm not sure if they're in SR5 or TRD packages though.

 

what if some asshole pours water in your gas tank =[.

 

That adjustment knob only adjusts the lumbar. It doesn't do anything to the lower seat cushion.

 

After almost 30 years of driving no one I know has ever had water, sugar, draino, ping pong balls, jet fuel or any else added to their tank. If it ever does happen I'll deal with the asshole appropriately.

 

Welcome to owning a 2nd generation Tacoma....I'm sure you will find more to bitch about....."Oh what a feeling"...

 

I hate my truck, i want it to perform like an evo, light weight as a elise, tough as a BMW M3, quiet as a lexus, & styling like a lambo. I want vertical lift doors too made of carbon fiber. I want a free 6" suspension lift from the dealer. Free tires of my choose under 5G. and 1 million dollars on any other upgrade i desire.

 

It does help to read the manual doesn't it.

 

I agree about some of your issues. its a badass truck but it doesnt come with half the options that you can get on any other toyota model. no idea why....

 

What I say to myself, when I think of things I want the Taco to have is simple.

IT's A TRUCK... It's not meant to be fancy.

 

My biggest bitch is probably the heated mirrors. Granted not a big deal for those lucky folks south, but somedays its a damn safety hazard not having them, but hell I got my tpms idiot light. You can scrape all you want, its the ability to burn off the rain or road crap WHILE actually driving. And I don't mean just in the winter. This weekend towing my trailer I was basically did my best on the highway & managed. Irks me even time! I guess for $350 I can buy a heated muth set or do the mod BUT the cold weather package with my Tundra was a $100 bucks plus you got a upgraded battery & alternator.

Neither the tundra nor my tacoma gave me the 7 to 4 adapter tho...fwiw.

I guess I got lucky that I got the 7 to 4 adapter for free...was in my glovebox when I came in to pick the truck up...

 

I think it is a price point issue.

Toyota could have offered a Tacoma in a Limited trim. They could have put all that stuff in like leather heated seats, heated mirrors, power seats (maybe), power rear window, nav system, etc.

However, a truck with all of that stuff would be pushing $40k. At that price level, I think Toyota wants to sell up to a Tundra.

Still... I don't know why they didn't go to rear disc brakes. The Tundra and 4Runner both have them. Seems kind of a silly omission.

 

Enuff bitchin' already....Why do you guys go out and buy a vehicle without doing your homework???

far as I know Toyotas, no matter waht the model,are probably the best imported vehicle on the road today.

So stop the bitcnin' you didn't have to buy a Tacoma there are lots of others out there....but I won't go there.
