Hey so I got a 98 sr5 and when I turn any air on fan, heat, ac, I can hear a little fan ticking. (im assuming its whatever is pushing the air through the cab). Does anyone know how I can access this thing to make the annoying rattle go away?

Does it sound like "chirping" or like a rodent is under your glove box?

If so, it's your blower motor.

It's common for 1st gens. Some say they have opened it up and cleaned it thus taking care of the problem. I've had no luck.

Eventually I'll just replace it for $30 or $40.

It's on the firewall under your glove box. I think it's 3 hex screws.

I have done all the hi-pro mods for a life time, since I got this truck at a great price, I will be happy with showroom new.
YEP, and if your truck came from a dusty environment like mine did get ready for a dirt bomb to come out.
to be honest mine had so much dirt caked on the fan blades I said fuck it, and stuck it in the shower and used a brush on it. works great now, I figured if I messed the motor up I would just toss it because it was worthless like it was.
and it had lots of leaves and twigs... I believe Texas Live Oak.

so i pulled the fan out... looked clean so I went ahead and took one of those computer compressed air things and sprayed the hell out of the fan and the housing and reinstalled it. Ill be damned if the stupid thing still rattles!! Am i looking at replacing the unit or am i missing something?

I haven't had any luck cleaning it out either.

Mine sounds like a squeaky bearing or something like that.

Eventually I'll care enough to replace it. But so far, after 13 years, I haven't gotten there yet.
