not all of them can get jobs due to health issues, and education. not to mention the unemployment rate in the US as is...

    http://www.google.ca/publicdata/explore?ds=z1ebjpgk2654c1_&met_y=unemployment_rate&idim=country:US&fdim_y=seasonality:S&dl=en&hl=en&q=us+unemployment+rate

haha cut the presidents pay? you want the guy to do a good job of running your country (yes I know some of you will say he isn't doing a good job, thats not the point), but you want him to do it while making less money than he is right now? nobody works harder for a drop in salary

you're going to have to pay every single person involved in "revamping" that system, and running all the training courses for those people, it's going to cost millions of tax dollars to do so, and all you're going to do is end up with a worse unemployment rate. you know it yourself being a small business owner, you can't just hire and pay people without any extra business/ income. So yes I agree it should be revamped, but it's going to cost some tax dollars/pain now for the people who have jobs and can afford to pay taxes, to ensure a better future.

That is what SS was designed for.

I'm not trying to be cruel, but we can't continue down the path we are headed. We can't take care of 25% of the country just because they don't feel like working. Everyone needs to contribute, or we are going to be just like greece. We need to fix the systems we have, bring the budget down so we have a budget surplus and begin paying down our debt. The Gov. needs run like a business. You can't spend more than you take in. While getting out of debt, it may take some sacrifices and it won't be easy.

Just got off the phone with an old friend who has been receiving SSDI for the past 11 years--even though she can work (aarrgghhh). Ranting, deal with it:

I'm disabled too... as I said earlier but I see far too many "disabled" people getting a free pass. As many of you who have seen pics of my truck on here can attest, I have handicap plates--I must use a cane to walk as I have almost no feeling in my right leg (long story). I rarely, if ever, park in designated spots--I'm still walking, therefore, I can walk a little farther. It's good for me.

What I typically see are 300+lb lard asses parking in them because their disability is fucking obesity. And when I see someone whip out the 'ol LoneStar EBT Card, it's usually glued to the bloated-Krispy Kreme-glazed hand of some fat bitch whose crime against humanity is eating her young. Fuck those people.

My sympathy for all those milking the system is at an all time low. I feel sorry for the children of these cretins. Their primary example are parents who perpetually take handouts because they are too lazy to work. On top of it, in order to break the negative trend, these children have to find some way to escape the entitlement mentality they have grown up with to have any chance in this world. May God help us.

Seriously... if it were up to me, no one would receive government handouts for more than 2 years, with a lifetime cap of 4 years. No more lifetime gibmedats. Exception: The catastrophically ill/disabled will be cared for by society for life--I have no problem with taking care of those who can truly not take care of themselves. But if you are a grown up and you tell me you can't find a job in 2 years--then you don't actually wan to work and you're a lazy piece of shit liar--and you deserve everything you have coming to you and then some.

End rant. Damn that felt good.

As I stated in the other thread, we first have to address spending and then we can figure out what our tax needs are. Our spending is totally out of control.

An interesting fact for the tax the rich to solve our problem crowd: If the tax on million-dollar and up earners (those with AGI of $1M or more) were set to 100% (ie. we took it ALL) that would bring in just under $800 Billion per year. The deficit for just this year is $1.3 Trillion. This means we would need to find another $500 Billion per year in tax revenue just to break even! Obviously, we would need MORE than the $500 Billion per year to have anything left over to start paying down the $15 Trillion National Debt.

We are in BIG trouble and it is going to take BIG changes and sacrifices across the board to begin to dig our way out of this mess.

haha what? We get pay cuts every yr due to cost of living and no raises and that person is an employee of the taxpayers. They work for us not the other way around. Hell yes, all of them should sacrifice first to lead by example, quit making laws & decisions for others that they aren't affected by and be paid by performance. I know I do more for less every time the company lays off someone and the remaining people are now doing twice the work. Why shouldn't the president lead by example? Every tax paying law abiding citizen of this country works harder for a drop in pay as a politician and get way less vacations at other's expense as well. If it's good for us, it's good for politicians.

yep. I'm even willing to pay more in taxes, but they have to prove to me they can spend my money wisely or they can fuck off.

My neighbors downstairs throw away milk and food because they get so much, and get high all day. And my aunt has a disability tag for being obese while I threw mine away and am actually injured.

That parenting bit is the biggest part.
I firmly believe it is nothing short of child neglect and abuse to raise your kid to be so extremely unhealthy and handicapped. These kids are so screwed from the get go by their fat parents that there's little hope of them ever contributing to a solution. That's why I said earlier, if you can't change the people, don't even bother changing laws or taxes.

Politicians should not receive, in any way, lifetime benefits in the form of salary or healthcare--one term or 15 terms. This incentives lifetime politicians and that's not at all the intention of our founding fathers. Fiscal reform must start at the top.

    of course
I have a better idea, NO! Other people should spend less of my money. While they are at it, they could stop borrowing money on my behalf to pay for things I did not approve.

    1. Work for your money.
    2. If you cannot find a job, one will be provided for you. All you will earn is food, shelter, credits for the essentials, and you will attend school.
    3. No handouts unless you are physically AND mentally unable to work.

Obese people who have handicap placards for being obese is about as disgusting as it gets. I just want to go up to them and shove a Twinkie in their engorged pie-holes. What was that movie about the deadliest sins? Seven... gluttony was it? Yep.

Part of the problem with caps on benefits is people find ways around them. These people are too lazy to work, but are happy to spend their time finding loopholes in government programs. I believe it was 1996 when a limit (I believe it is 2yrs) was put on welfare. So that sucked for all of the 2nd, 3rd and 4th generation welfare lifers. So they all got jobs of some sort - Walmart or Burger King jobs. Then someone discovered that SSDI was for life if you were permanently disabled. So they found ways to become 'disabled'...problem solved! This worked out even better for these people, because while we could all bitch about lazy welfare folks no one would dare bitch about a 'disabled' person.

Last time I was at the grocery the lady in front of me was one of the LoneStar EBT Card people you describe. $275 worth of Coke 12 packs, Little Debbies, Oreos, steaks, etc. I wanted to ask her if she would like to thank me for all the crap my tax dollars just bought for her!

I feel the same way about the scumbag freeloadeing pieces of shit that choose not to have healthcare insurance but go to the ER for their pre Natal care, or get their broken limbs fixed up with ZERO thoughts about paying. I think they are a bigger drain on this country than welfare frauds.

Don't think that just because someone is obese, that they are fat and lazy. My mom is disabled, and yes, she is a good bot overweight. That is because she has had leg and knee problems for the past 30 years. Even diets only can help a certain amount. She does her best.
