Americans in general should pay more taxes .

Maybe people who haven't worked in 4+ years shouldn't get a say in voting for the next election haha

The one that P's me off the most is the 16%, right up there with national defense. Just glad I could help pay for a cell phone W/free minutes, and the $75 extra on welfare checks for entertainment, for those poor underprivileged people out there.

Probablly the president could serve for nothing. I believe the Clintons made $160 million, after getting out of the White House.
The current President should be good for double that!

 

So , lets say you shit can your " entitlement " programs , and keep that money in the federal coffers , what then ?

Is that enough money to pay down your debt and avoid austerity cuts in the near future ?

 

our debt is way to out of control to pay down, we can barely make the intrest payments (we dip into the Social Security Trust Fund for extra cash)

This thread was started by a Canadian that made a blanket statement regarding American's in general should pay more taxes. I believe his point was to pay down the deficit? Still don't really know what his reasoning was - but as you pointed out -tax revenue increase is not the answer...

 

No offense was meant... I know some are predisposed to obesity and some orthopaedic problems exaggerate weight gain. I'm referring to what most would consider typical obesity caused by someone's inability to stop shoving food down their throat. But this has always been the chicken vs. egg argument. Did someone's obesity lead to their health problems or did their health problems lead to their obesity.

In any case, I was speaking of those who are consistently a drain on society because they have little or no self-control.

 

Everybody else seems to have grasped that

 

the major problem ^^^^^^ not more tax revenue... this problem is solvable and begins with tax payers holding our elected officials accountable for fixing entitlement programs... They don't perform - vote em out! period, no matter how well they speak.

This story today demonstrates the waste our government allows when funding entitlement programs. The government wants us to pay for some guy to buy cigarettes with his EBT card. WTF? More ARGH!

How about we put the budget and gov programs back to the way they were right before bush took office. Exactly Half of the budget now. What ever is left starts to pay the deficit.
