First, I literally just made my TacomaWorld account so don't hate on me too hard if I put this in the wrong discussion topic or did something else wrong.

Anyways Im almost 16 and my parents are going to "help me out with" a Tacoma for my b-day although Im going to have to buy everything I want aftermarket in order to stormtrooper it (Im in love with storm trooper tacomas). And I have a 24,000 budget but once I get a job I have to help with the payments. Comment below which option you think I should go with.

Option 1: $24,000 Used 2008 white Doublecab 4x4 Long bed with 40,000 miles
    -2 inch spacer lift
-17 inch chrome wheels with 33" Nitto Grapplers I believe
    - Icon upper control arms
-Alpine touch screen nav/backup cam, alpine speakers all around and JL W1
    - Chrome billet upper and lower grille
-Rolling bed cover thats supposedly $2,000
Everything thats chrome I could sell and get in black, and sell the bed cover

Option 2: $25,000 New 2012 white Doublecab prerunner with only the SR5 package (no sport or offroad). We know someone at a dealer and thats why we could get a new for that price but I would want to get a sound system and everything to turn it into a ST

Thanks.. My friends that drive FJ's say I should 4x4 but I figure if I got the prerunner I could just have them tow me out if i got stuck. Do you think I really need 4x4?

Your friends may not always be there for you.

Personally, I would recommend the used truck versus the new truck, especially since you're a new driver and this is your first vehicle. You would be so pissed if you wrecked a brand new truck, versus and older one.

IMO, help your parents out, find a nice 1st gent that already has the mods you want, will cost you less. If the previous owner took care of it, the truck will be just as nice, and then when you smack it against a tree offroad it wont be as huge of a deal.

Good point, I get so mad when I mess up my stuff and I would go insane x 10 if that happened to a brand new truck.

Just something to think about trevor, if you buy the 1st truck (which sounds really nice) its already pretty much modded or at least in the beginniing stages,im not a huge well known authority or anything but to me half the fun is actually paying for the mods/and or doing them yourself so your actually building YOUR truck..... not one thats already been changed... just my thoughts.... Used. You're a new driver and your taste may change. I'm 38 and got my first car at 18...been through 41 vehicles in 20 years. Never wrecked one.

This is also a good suggestion.

The joy of modding your truck is highly overrated. Its a big pain and a hassle that takes all your spare time. Buy a modded truck.

AMEN!!!! 24k is insane IMO for a first truck - where i come from everyone starts on a truck work 1k and learns how to appreciate a vehicle and the responsibility. That being said it's a big decision so make sure you decide on one you won't regret!

My first truck was a '65 Chevy Stepside, for which my folks paid ~$3k in 1987. Enjoy your parents' generosity and don't take it for granted. /grown-up dude's advice. LOL

I would suggest being your first vehicle I would get a used one. If you happen to break something you aren't going to care as much compared to buying a new one. If I were you I'd get the used one and get it inspected. At least you'll have the peace of mind knowing that it's safe and what not. Just my opinion.

Imo.. go used.. just like everyone else here said.. $24k is alot for a first vehicle.. mine was nowhere near that. lol I worked my way up the ranks to get to my Taco now.. including two previous tacos.. ;) one being a 1st gen. Your tastes and driving habits will change. Not saying your a bad driver, but wrecking a $24k truck sucks.. ask me how I know.. and you may not like the truck at all..

I would say go 1st gen, BUT, I'm also the guy who believes do what makes you happy.. I had to tell myself that when I bought my 06 by myself at 18.. and glad I did. Your In a different scenario tho.. unless you ARE taking over payments.. then get what you want.

Regardless.. 4wd FTW.. oh and good choice on the Stormtrooper theme.. but I may be biased. ;)
